The Bottom Line:
This is a great cologne, that garners a lot of attention.
Colognes are a personal choice for many, and I wanted to find one that I could wear, that would scream sophistication without offending anyone. Since Kenneth Cole dropped their Signature Line, I was put in the position of trying to find a new cologne. After many trips to department stores, where I was hassled and harassed by sales women at fragrance counters, I decided to seek out the Burberry's. This company has been around for a long time(mid 1850's), and has been associated with success, along with according to Wikipedia some British hooligans. This seemed to be a perfect fit, as I like a bit of thuggery along with my Eddie Bauer wardrobe.
Burberry Touch and London are decent colognes, but seemed to be a bit feminine in their scents. While it is useful to attract women with a cologne, I did not want to smell as if coming from "the powder room." After getting a whiff of Burberry's Brit, which was introduced in 2005, I knew I had a new cologne that would suit my preferences and next ex-wife. Since the Christmas gift sets were no longer available, I settled on a package deal from Bloomingdales, which offered a 1.7 oz eau de toilette spray of Brit and shower gel, for a total of $80.00. The salesperson I bought it from assured me that at Christmas, they would have a bigger set with deodorant stick and after shave balm for a slightly larger price. The deodorant stick was $24, which I felt bad about shelling out for, considering a Gillette product costs around $5 a stick.
The 1.7 oz spray container retails for around $50, and it is an attractive bottle. It has a British style checkered design, and it is made of glass. The top is easy to slide off, but it can be a bit of a pain to properly put back on. It fits easily in an average sized human's palm, and the sprayer dispenses a large amount of cologne with each spray. If you are going to a night club or bar, you should use two sprays. However, if you are in the office for a day, be sure to use only one. It is a bit strong, and it does not wear off easily.
The Burberry site states that this cologne has hints of cedarwood, mandarin, wild roses, oriental woods, ginger, and berganot. Other than the mandarin and wild roses, I am not too familiar with what these other scents are. Their site is correct that it is a masculine smell, that will appeal to women everywhere. I have received a lot of compliments about it, and think highly of it as well. It is a cologne you can wear to a baseball game, without your classy buddies clowning you for "smelling girly." It is also a scent that will appeal to women at the same time, and for this I am quite thankful.
The scent is best described as confidence in a bottle, and I think it has a similar successful vibe that Kenneth Cole Signature had. It is better than that brand, and it is so good to have a cologne that lasts for a whole day with minimal sprays. Although it is more expensive than some of its competitors, it is price effective in its long lasting effects with these few sprays. It also seems to lack the burning alcohol effects of other colognes, as there is no pain applying this after a close shave. That is another reason I like it, and this will always be my first choice in fine colognes.
