The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this to anyone who loves to sew or quilt. With 110 stitch combinations and 10 feet, you can do almost anything.
The Brother XR-7700 sewing machine is a fabulous machine. Not matter if you sew garments, crafts, or quilts, you will find that this machine is versatile, easy to use, and has everything you need.
This inexpensive machine is packed full of features. You can regulate the sewing speed so that even beginners can sew successfully. I let my 8-year-old use it with the setting on slow. This gives him the ability to sew straight lines and control the fabric and use the pedal. There is the option to either use the included foot pedal or you can sew with the push of a button instead.
Aside from speed and pedal controls, there is an automated bobbin and threading system included.
This machine can handle a variety of threads in both the bobbin and the upper needle. I have used metallics, rayon, cotton and polyester in both. I find that some of the metallics can be difficult to wind on the bobbin if you use the bobbin winder. Very slippery threads need to be wound by hand.
Another great feature is the number of feet included. A walking foot is included for quilters, as well as 9 other feet for a total of 10 different sewing feet. There are a total of 70 stitches available and a total of 110 stitching options available. You can choose the stitch and then adjust the length and width through selections on the LCD screen. You even have an option to sew on buttons and automate buttonholes.
Other options that were included in this machine were the extended sewing bed, a free arm for sewing sleeves, and a hard case. There is also a place to put your favorite picture.
Finally, there is the light. This machine includes an LCD light source that makes seeing your work easier.
Overall, I love this machine. It was an upgrade from an old Brother Zigzag that I purchased 20 years ago. I love the variety of stitches, including decorative ones. This is not an embroidery machine you can create wonderful garments and add decorative trim to all sorts of items with this sewing machine. You will not be disappointed with this machine. You can get it for about the same price as a machine without all of the features this one includes.
