The Bottom Line:
You are my BROTHER....typewriter that is!
As our typewriters at work were reaching their 20th year birthdays, I convinced my boss that we needed a replacement. It took until we were down to one typewriter to get approval to purchase a new one but the task was finally done! I ordered a Brother ML-300 Typewriter off of State Contract. I decided on this machine because it is not used heavily and should meet our needs. Price was only $179.00 on State Contract.
The Basics
The Brother ML-300 Typewriter is an electric typewriter with the lift-off correction feature. This model came with two daisy wheels (type print), one of which has international capabilities. It has a LED panel which displays the last 16 characters and is easy to read. It also has Word Spell which allows for easy detection of misspelled words and auto correction with the lift-off feature.
The Typewriter
The Brother ML-300 Typewriter is smaller than the old IBM typewriters that we replaced. I would call this a compact model. The case is a light gray and will match any office decor. Accessories that came with the Brother ML-300 Typewriter are: 2 Daisy Wheels, User's Guide, Accessory Order Form, 1 Ribbon, 1 Correction Lift-Off Tape. Everything you need to get started using your new typewriter is included!
Other Features
The Brother ML-300 Typewriter has all the normal formatting features such as Cap Lock, Line Indent, Super/Sub Script, One-touch tab settings, centering, right margin flush, etc. It also has automatic underlining, bold printing which not all models will have. This feature is nice when you need a section of print to stand out.
The keyboard is compact and has a tight feel to it. It will take some time for me to get totally used to this machine since I'm used to a much larger machine.
Specifications
The Brother ML-300 Typewriter is a compact design as I mentioned earlier. It weights only 10 lbs. Dimensions are 16.4" x 5.3" x 15.1". It operates on a normal 115 volt AC. The Brother ML-300 Typewriter has a one year limited warranty.
Ease Of Use And Performance
This is an easy typewriter to use once you get used to the feel of it. The LED panel is easy to read and helps catch errors while typing. Corrections are made by hitting the auto correct button and the typewriter repositions where you should start typing.
Changing the ribbon is easy. You just need to release the lever holding the ribbon and it will pop out easily. The correction ribbon is a bit trickier. It is a spool type and you have to be patient to make sure it is threaded correctly.
The User's Guide has instructions for all the details on usage and replacing ribbons, lift-off tape. There is also a section for common trouble-shooting areas.

Final Thoughts And Recommendation
I give the Brother ML-300 Typewriter 4.5 Stars. I find it very easy to use. It was not very expensive. But the hassle with replacing the lift-off tape could be designed a little better in my opinion.
