The Bottom Line:
I would not recommend this product because of the ink only being available in specialty office supply stores. This is not convenient for people who live in rural areas.
This printer was given to me as a Christmas gift in December 2007. It has been dependable and I was thrilled to get it. I still have not learned how to do everything that it is capable of doing.
Fax mode is very simple and easy to use and it comes in handy in my home office because I am constantly sending out faxes. The printer is by no means the fastest I have seen, but it does a good job for my use. The copier and fax both will feed multiple papers, but it does best with only 3-5 sheets.
This multi-function machine uses multiple ink cartridges, which in my opinion is a bad idea because the first time I went out in search of a replacement, when my black ink level alerted me it was empty, I was surprised to find out you cannot just replace the black, you must replace them all. I also had a difficult time finding the ink in my small town. Wal-Mart and K-Mart do not carry it. I finally found it at a small office supply store. You can purchase the ink separately but it gets quite expensive that way. It costs approximately $30 for the black and $12-$15 for the other 3.
I have had to call the Brother Customer support line a few times with questions about certain functions, and the representatives were very helpful and knowledgeable.
