Good Machine for the price of an all in one printer
I like the ease of installation because it was done automatically but the fax part wants to answer the phone no matter how many rings you set it for. I found it to work with my computer very easily and the manual that came with it is great. So far no problems and I've had it about five months now. Read full review »

Brother 420CN is a real Piece of Junk -
I was impressed with this Brother-420CN for a while, then it started acting up. Drinks that ink like a thirsty dog. Spent more on the ink than the printer itself. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!
First, the print quality is sub-par and then, well....the automatic 'cleaning' process gradually empties your ink cartridges (cleaning out your wallet, more like) - EVEN if you've never used your colour cartridges, you'll have to replace them! Brother MFC-420 CN is a very good buy
Has all the functions I wanted. Saves space because it loads from the bottom and the auto feeder portion loads from the side. Be sure to go back after installing and install the other programs. Great price, good print quality. Money well spent.
First saw this all in one machine at a local electronics store and liked it because of the machines size and profile. Unlike other all in one machines, this machine height is minimal. Surprised the mfc-420cn can also be hooked up to my home network, which is a big positive.

Paperless PC-FAX receive is nearly useless!
I bought a 640CW and so a friend bought a 420CN thinking that he would lose just the wireless network connections function of my more $$ 640CW.
Wrong!
With the 420CN, you can output paperless FAX's from any networked PC. However you can't receive FAX's to ANY PC for paperless...

Beware
Baught this machine from Wal-Mart for really cheap for the features it has . Found out later I cannot use it as a plain fax machine without first installing the four ink cartridges. Never buy this printer!!
This is a lousiest Brother's product I have ever own!
After about 2 months of using it. The ink sensor started acting up. It gave error message of "out of ink" when there are still plenty of ink in the cartridges. I replaced with brand new ink cartridges but it still did not recognized there...
