The Bottom Line:

If you're frustrated with the performance of your machine, whatever kind it is, I encourage you to pick up one of these Brother machines.

Let me start by saying I have owned a basic brother machine for 5 years and it's never really done a good job. I struggled a lot with tension and knotting, etc. I sucked it up because it was a gift from my husband. It replaced a 1900's singer, the old black and gold kind, that I got at an auction for $9 and used for years. It still worked when I replaced it and it weighed 1.5 tons because it was built into the cabinet. Anyhoooooo, the old singer would power through anything and my little brother just didn't have the power or the skill. It had more features, but that's it.

That said, my little brother kind of bit the dust. I was sort of happy because now I had an excuse to replace it. I decided to go back to singer since my brother never really cut the mustard. I got my shiny new singer home and it had three problems right out of the box. It wouldn't pick up the thread, the bobbin didn't move.... PERIOD, and the needle would strike something under the machine when it was positioned all the way to the left side. I packed it up and hauled it back. I researched what to get to replace it. I found 17 positive reviews on the Walmart site for this Brother CE5000, runway edition. So, I grabbed one up at the local walmart. I got that little honey home and plugged it in and wound up the bobbin and it just flat out hums. No adjustments to tension. No issues with the needle picking up the thread, no obstructions under the needle, etc. It just purred like a kitten and it sews PERFECT stitches. No loops underneath. No loops on top. No knots anywhere. BEAUTIFUL!! Marvelous stitches on a variety of fabrics. I'm THRILLED!! I had no idea how bad my old little brother was. Matter of fact, I don't think it ever really worked right now that I have this gem. Kudos to the brothers at Brother!! You pulled it off this time and produced a really slick little machine, for under $150! YaY!!!

p.s. This website says it's only available at Overstock.com. But, I got mine at Walmart. Check out the walmart reviews as well. No disappointments there.
