YES! IT WAS TIME TO REPLACE TONER AND DRUM?
You know the drill as well as I do – with most laser printers you generally replace the toner and the printer is like new again. However, the day arrives when the drum as reached its life as well and for some of us this is more frequently than others. My day arrived last week, the toner and drum needed replacement and the monitoring report also showed the fuser is reaching its end as well. The Brother HL-5140 Laser Printer has been solid and provided years of reliable solid use. Very low paper jams, excellent print quality and solid construction. And here comes the “BUT!” it is going to cost over $400 to replace the consumables and the fuser.
Obviously that is ridiculous when I can purchase a brand new Brother Hl5370dw High Speed Wireless Mono Laser with Built in Duplex Printer sporting Wi-Fi, twice the memory 32mb, auto duplexing, 50 page auto manual feeder, full toner 3000 pages, and full drum 25000 pages. I can even upgrade its memory with a 512mb simms and still be a half the cost of buying consumables for my Brother HL-5140 Laser Printer.

The Brother Hl5370dw High Speed Wireless Mono Laser with Built in Duplex Printer seems to meet the same quality standards as all my previous Brother Laser Printers. The printer is only a few pounds lighter than the Brother HL-5140 Laser Printer. The lower paper tray is not as solidly constructed as the lower paper tray of the Brother HL-5140 though sturdy enough to last the life of the printer or until the printer needs replacing because consumables cost more than a new printer.
This Brother Hl5370dw High Speed Wireless Mono Laser with Built in Duplex Printer also aids me in limiting Medusa’s mess of tangled cables. Permitting the ability to place printer anywhere I elect and print securely and wirelessly with the speed and efficiently of direct connection.
DUTY CYCLE AND PAPER HANDLING
Duty cycle of this quality printer is 30,000 pages monthly with an actual recommended use of 500 to 3000 per month.
Printed pages have a slight curl when coverage is limited to one side of the page. The page curling is reduced when using duplex. In any event, the small amount of page curling is not a huge issue and you should not be deterred from purchasing because of it. Once page is folded and placed in envelope the curl flattens out or you can lightly curl the page manually in reverse for any document you want to lay completely flat. When printing multiple pages just permit them to lay face down and the curl should dissipate on its own without any manual interference.
