The Bottom Line:
Good investment
The research will show that BRITAX is one of the best car seat brands on the market. Britax is one of the only brands that makes a safe and reliable convertible car seat. The general agreement among parents and soon to be parents is that BRITAX is the best.
I received the ROUNDABOUT as a shower present for my first child and also bought one for my second child online. To date I have had this car seat for thee years. I will admit at first I was not sure of the different types of car seats on the market. I never used this seat for my newborns because it was just too big for them. It is also not convenient. You have to take the child in and out. Other car seats have a base that the car seat snaps into.
When do you use this seat? This seat is great when your child reaches 20 pound and less than a year. You place it in the car rear facing. This can be very handy if you have a large or tall child.
Once the child is one you can turn it around forward facing and the child can use this until they are at least 3 years old or about 40 pounds. This seat is also great if you have a large truck or SUV. It just seems to sit in a nicer position on the car seat that a regular car. It seemed to fit better in my husbands pick-up truck than my Subaru.( Child didn't hang forward)
I don't like installing anything and get nervous that I will do it wrong. Your local Police or Fire Department usually has a person certified on their department that will install them and make sure it is done right. I would suggest you do this or install it yourself and have them check it out after. If your car accepts the LATCH system then it will usually take less than and hour.
Using it rear facing is a bit more difficult because of the position you want your child to sit in.
In regards to color, I honestly do not care. I just wanted a safe seat and wanted the best deal. The seat doesn't seem to stain easily and can be cleaned by spot cleaning or taking the covering off.
It is easy to adjust the straps making them lose or tight. The buckles are also easily to manipulate when you are placing the child in the car.
The ONLY CONCERN that I have is that my 2 ½ year old can open and close the chest buckle on her own. She has been able to do this since about age 2. The main buckle/ between her legs always stays shut .
The seat is nicely padded and my children have no problem falling asleep in it. We have had accidents in it and it has been abused by my kids being covered in sand from the beach.
Overall, it is an excellent product that you will be happy with and enjoy using. It is on the higher. So it may not be for you if you are on a fixed income. Although, it would stand up to time if you planned on having more than one child. I was completely satisfied with this product.
If you don't care about what color it comes in you can possibly get a could deal online. I paid $170 online.... I believe they usually go for about $200-$220.
