The Bottom Line:
Initial installation took much longer than expected, but once installed the seat is secure, solid and comfortable - exactly why I bought a Britax.
We needed an extra seat for our 3 year old to ride in my husband's car. I searched quite a bit, not wanting to spend money on another Britax Decathlon (though I'm not sure they make that model anymore), but he's just at the lower end of the weight limit to begin using a harness/booster seat (31 lbs). I was not impressed with the quality of the harness booster seats on the market, coming from the Decathlon and was thrilled when I found the Frontier.
The seat came yesterday and it's just a different shape than the Decathlon (and the Marathon we use for our 1 year old). It's wider - which I think is a good thing if it's going to grow with your kid until they are hefty enough to be out of a car seat. The length is seemingly shorter than our older seats, but there is a height adjustable head rest.
I agree with the previous post - it's HEAVY. Much heavier than our other two seats.
It's made a little different and though it's still made by Britax, I had a difficult time getting the Latch to secure tightly. Our other two seats take 5 minutes to install. I worked on installing the seat last night, and quit after 10 minutes. I tried again today for an HOUR!!!
Initially there was no way to get leverage to tighten the slack belt of the Latch. I tried the Latch installation in every location of my Honda Pilot - no improvement. I tried the seatbelt installation in several locations - no improvement. I have to say, trying to read a tethered instruction manual is a bit frustrating!
In any event...there are holes in either side of the car seat on the inside (on the backrest, near where the child sits). The slack belt of the latch needs to be threaded through these slots for leverage. I didn't think this was clearly stated in the instructions. Once we made this minor change, the car seat doesn't move at all.
Now that we know how to install, I think this seat too will take 5 minutes or less to install. While we finished installing too late tonight to enjoy the seat, I imagine my 3 year old is going to love it. He's even excited about his new seat.
