Rear-facing leg room and poor customer service.

The Bottom Line:
Don't buy to use rear facing because it only has 10" leg room and will greatly compromise an infant's comfort and safety. Wait til your child turns one.
When I purchased this product, I did so because my 8 month old was 29" and her infant car seat's maximum height was 29", so I thought I'd go ahead and buy a convertible to use rear facing until she turned one. We have a Yukon with bucket seats in the back, and when I installed the car seat, I noticed there wasn't hardly any leg room even with the car seat in the fully reclined position! There is only a mere 10" from where the butt hits the back of the car seat to the back of the car's bucket seat the car seat is placed on. When I placed my infant in it, her legs were bent and her knees were pressing back against her tummy because of the lack of leg room (VERY cramped). I called customer service and complained about this, and they just told me that it is still safe if the knees bend! I went on to tell them there is no way I would want my infant sitting in that position for a car ride; I don't care how safe it is, it definitely would NOT be comfortable! I asked them if they got other people calling regarding the same problem, and they said yes, that people had asked about it. They did not have any suggestions or remedies for me. I told them how disappointed I was to buy a convertible car seat that really would not work as a convertible and which I would have to hold on to and wait for 4 months until my infant turns one so that I could use it as a forward facing seat. They just referred me to some websites about safety...that was it! I'm worried that in the 4 months they might have a better product, plus if I had known it wasn't going to work as a convertible, I would have waited until she was one year's old and just kept using the bucket infant car seat I have...at least her legs are able to extend and be comfortable in that one! If you are considering buying this car seat for the convertible feature, make sure you take the time to go to a retailer and try it out instead of just buying on-line, sight unseen. I thought about this prior to buying and didn't want to travel 30 minutes to a retailer, so I opted to just buy it without trying....BIG MISTAKE. AND I hope I do not come across any other problems and/or issues when I do finally get to use it as a forward facing seat because I really feel their customer support is awful and VERY unhelpful.
