So what if I am a snobby bride!

Pros Its a bridal magazine
Cons too frilly dresses, boring articles
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Not for the bride who is into elegance. More down to earth ideas, more for the budget conscious.
After becoming engaged a few weeks ago, I went out and bought every bridal magazine currently on the shelves. Hey, I thought, this is a once in a lifetime event, right? I often need justification for my purchases, especially 8 bridal magazines. I also reasoned that since I am planning an October 2002 wedding, I wanted to have all the current Fall editions handy.

Bridal Guide was one of my purchases, along with Modern Bride, Martha Stewart, Bride's, Elegant Bride and Wedding Dresses. Bridal Guide was my least favorite of them all. Here's why:

Ads, ads and did I mention ads?
Too much. Yes, some were informative, and some were very repetitive. Every back page was a plug for something or other, most of which I was not interested in. Things such as handkerchiefs, lacy guest books and silver plated toasting glasses (my matron of honor has already sent me Waterford ones - love her!). Just not in my taste, which leads to reason #2.....

Lace, lace and more lace
I don't like lace. I maybe found 3 gowns in the entire magazine that I would actually wear. I want simple with a bit of beading. Many of the gowns in this magazine had 10 feet of lace trailing behind them...ughhhh. I'd rather wear jeans than one of those. The bridemaid's dresses featured were not very exciting. The fabrics looked cheap and nothing there I would choose either.

Small in size
Every other bridal magazine (except for Elegant Bride) was close to 600 pages chock full of information, photos, ideas and honeymoon stuff. Bridal guide topped out at less than 300 pages. Hey, for $5 a pop, I want more!!! That's just me being selfish. They could surely find some more lace and ads to add, right?

Articles
These were so-so. Some excellent hair and make-up tips, but the content articles were not that good, or didn't really apply to me. I flipped through a back issue that one of my friends had (just to be fair) and there wasn't that much that appealed to me in that one either. Then again, I'm super picky and only want to read things that apply to me!

Did I like anything?
Yes. The sheer fact that it was a bridal magazine gave me joy. I think I am still in the shocked/glowing stage of engagement, for I still cannot believe I am going to be one of those happily beautiful women in white in about a year. I would not purchase this magazine again, but that is just a matter of taste. There were some great ideas in there if you are on a budget and if you like frilly, this magazine will have the dress for you!
