The Bottom Line:
This has been one of my most satisfying appliance purchases.
We bought a cheap plastic $20 electric kettle for our household which not only practically melted at one point, but started to make me worry about all the possible chemicals I could be ingesting from having boiling water interact with plastic. So the search was on for a high quality replacement. After some research online, I came across this model.
We've been using it regularly for about 2 years now, up to 3 or 4 times per day. I use it in connection with the Bodum Glass Teapot (got that at Williams & Sonoma) to make delicious green or white tea every day.
For almost every product out there, you will read some negative reviews. In this case, I noticed people complained about a chemical smell being added to the water and the button to start the boiling process breaking off. In moderate use over a two year period, I have not experienced either of these things.
The unit is very attractive and because it is tall rather than wide it doesn't take up a lot of counter space. The brushed steel exterior can pick up some stains but those are easy to wipe off. The stainless steel interior ensures that your water won't be contaminated by plasticizers. There is also a mesh screen making sure if anything gets in your kettle it won't end up in your drink.
Overall the unit does its job quickly and competently and it is a beautiful appliance, aesthetically pleasing to look at and use. It's handle is large and easy to hold and never gets hot. The kettle comes off the base easily so you can have it plugged in at one location and when the water finishes boiling you can remove the entire kettle and pour the water out somewhere else without unplugging anything. The blue light that illuminates the water level is a nice touch and there is a pleasant ding when the water is done boiling. This signal is not too loud yet I can hear it clear across my apartment, a distance of at least 40 feet.
After two years of constant use, the only wear I can detect is that inside of the kettle there is some rust developing.
