Pros Ergonomic, good-looking, quick to boil, easy to clean.  It's a well-made,...
Cons None, really.  Maybe the price.
Recommended it? Yes

After some frustrating experiences with other kettles (design and durability issues) I decided to splurge and pay $100 (Canadian) for the Breville Ikon cordfree kettle in May of 2010.  So far it's been well worth it.

The basic design is sleek and looks good on... Read full review »

Cons Minor rust problem

We bought a cheap plastic $20 electric kettle for our household which not only practically melted at one point, but started to make me worry about all the possible chemicals I could be ingesting from having boiling water interact with plastic. So the search was on for a high quality replacement... Read full review »

Pros Well made ( except that cordless feature is a poor design). Quick to boil water.
Cons Cordless feature did not hold up to daily use.
Recommended it? No

I purchased this kettle about 2 years ago from a department store for about $80.00 Canadian. It lasted about 18 months. I chose it over others because of its functionality, that it was stainless as apposed to my previous plastic kettle and the fact that after close examination it appeared well made... Nice looking but keep kids at a safe distance!

Pros Sleek design, nice metal finish, solid feel. Looks expensive. Classy.
Cons No insulation for the outside, so it gets scalding hot.
Recommended it? No

We moved back home to the US after an extended stay abroad and wanted to replace our trusty Krupps electric kettle. Unfortunately, the only nice-looking brand offered at the mall in our new home town was the Breville, and the top of the line seemed to be the Breville SK500 Cordless. Breville is a... Forever to boil...and a hazard!

byalexstuff Mar 15, 2009

Pros Looks nice.
Cons Automatic shut-off doesn't always work.
Recommended it? No

We liked the look of this and the functionality of the lid - which is easy to open. However, we found that the water took FOREVER to boil and would not shut off once a rolling boil was reached. The final straw was when the kettle did not shut off and acutally boiled for so long that all the water... Read full review »

Cheaply made

Pros Look great
Cons Doesn't function properly
Recommended it? No

Bought this kettle and when I took it out of the box, I found the stainless steel side was flawed with black in the grain of the metal. When I went to use the replacement kettle, I found that the automatic boil shut-off did not work. I felt the stainless steel on this kettle was poorly made. I did... Read full review »

Cons No problems at all
Recommended it? Yes

I purchased TWO different electric kettles and the Bodum performed well in quickly heating, but every time the lid is opened, water that has condensed on the inside of the lid drips on the countertop - a BIG problem in an office setting and a nuisance at best. The Breville electric kettle performs... Read full review »

Pros gorgeous, works perfectly, packaged with a conscience. Yes~!
Cons Not a one.

I have struggled with kettle burnouts and flaws for years. Finally I have found a kettle I am happy with in every way. This kettle adds aesthetically to my kitchen, with it's quality construction and materials and pleasing light blue incidental functions.

It boils fast enough, has a very... Read full review »

Pros Heats water fast, is easy to fill, turns off if empty and has separate base.
Cons Absolutely none.

I am obsessive about researching things before I buy them. I researched plenty before buying this Breville electric kettle. I have had it at least 6 months now, and it gets used several times a day, and night. We drink a lot of tea. This kettle heats up water faster than fast, and the water stays... Read full review »

Given the competition, not bad

Pros Easy to use, good build quality
Cons Not the fastest boiler and pricey

I picked up this water heater from bed bath and beyond (with the mailed 20% off coupon). It is the most attractive of the available offerings, but also the most expensive.

I first looked into getting one of these after I used my friend's Braun cordless kettle. While the Braun definitely... Read full review »

Pros Looks. Tall (small counter footprint). Good balance.
Cons You can easily burn your fingers with normal use. Inefficient (not insulated).
Recommended it? No

Replaced our old kettle (it finally bit the dust) with this one. Overall it seems nice, though I agree about the poor visibility of the water level gage.
Now, how was I burned(?). The handle invites your thumb and/or forefinger to touch the outside of the kettle and, guess what, it is not... Read full review »

My partner and I got tired of heating water for tea on the stove since we heat at least 2 gal per day! I decided to get it for Christmas. It looks great and best of all performs just the way it should. It is very sturdy and solidly built. There is blue light to indicate when it is on and a light... Read full review »

I actually bought this cordless electric kettle by Breville after a salesman at Crate and Barrel convinced me that it is the "Cadillac" of all electric kettles. While I do like this for many reasons, I do have a few gripes with it and so do not actually agree with the "Cadillac" classification... Read full review »

I needed to replace my Russel Hobbs kettle and after looking around a bit, I decided on this one. I have several Breville items and have been happy with them. This one has been something of a mixed bag, though, and here is why.

I recently purchased this cordless electric kettle and love it. It not only looks and feels like a very high quality product, but it performs well too. After owning a cheaper model recently that was very disappointing, this kettle is excellent and worth the money. I wanted a cordless kettle and was... Read full review »

The Breville SK500XL Ikon Tea Kettle features a brushed stainless steel base with a 360 kettle rotation around the mounting post. Powered by 1500 watts through the mounting post, the SK500XL jug itself is completely cordless once the brewing is complete and you lift it from the base. With a 54 oz maximum capacity, your Breville SK500XL tea kettle will work wonderfully to serve guests at a dinner party or to satisfy tea lovers. An innovative internal gear dampening system safely controls the release of steam as your tea is heated to the perfect temperature. As soon as the water begins to boil in the Breville Tea Kettle, a special bi-metal sensor automatically switches off the machine.
