Breath of Fire III for PlayStation 1

BOF is a cute game, but when you compare it to Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 8, the game seems a little...silly. Combats are done in the same facing format, while waiting for your characters to do what you told them to. The graphics are less than impressive, though there are definitely worse out there. It seems like the producers really tried to hook the player, with neat special powers for the characters, but it just doesn't make up for the simple way the game plays and feels.

One good point is the Gene system for the main character. During the game, you collect special powerups, called Genes. By combining them in certain ways, and using your inner energy, the main character can change into different "dragon" forms. Ranging from cute little "whelps" to full blown Behemoths, these are cool to experiment with and trying to discover new combinations is a blast. At least for those people who don't get frustrated, and find all of then on the web...

OK game for the kids and younger teens, but the adults should go for Final Fantasy 7&8. You will get more out of them.
