Broke after 3 uses, "Customer Service" = Joke of the Century

The Bottom Line:
DO NOT BUY. Will break and there is no way to get compensated.
I write this review in hopes that it makes certain that no one ever buys a Breadman machine from this company. We bought the Breadman in October 07, used it once each in November, December, and January. It simply would not work when we tried to make bread in February. We checked every possible thing that could be wrong, according to the manual, and it was just a lemon, a fiasco.
Now the fun begins. I began an email correspondence with "Applica Consumer Products", a subsidiary of Salton, Inc. I gave them a detailed story, and told them of how we could no longer return the Breadman to Target (since it was past 90 days since we'd made the horrific decision to buy the piece of worthless junk in the first place) and that we wanted either a replacement or refund.
Their "Customer Service" is like something out of a nightmare, complete with automated responses, erratic response times, and worst of all, their list of things one must do to procure a replacement or refund. I could sooner build the Eiffel Tower out of toothpicks than I could fill the insane list of requirements for a refund....snip the cord at the appliance back and ship to them, cut date code and number out of the Breadman box, remove sticker with numbers on it from bottom or side of machine, use a pencil to make an etching of the serial number on the side or bottom of machine, write a note stating the problem, submit a sales receipt, give all your mailing information, send a $7.50 check to them for shipping and handling.
While we enjoyed our three little loaves of bread, they certainly weren't worth $17 each, which is what they cost us if you pro-rate it against the cost of the machine ($52) and the length of use we got out of it. The only good thing I can say about Salton and Applica and the Breadman is that it livened up the dinner conversation we had with friends, talking about horrible companies and the planned obsolescence of products today.
The Breadman is a Deadman to us.
