Poor Design
Pros
Cleaning system is better than previous design. There is nothing else positive to note.
Cons
Bad foil and cutter design. Takes forever to complete shave and foil fails frequently.

The Bottom Line:
Do not buy this shaver, it is not reliable and not very effective. Very poor value for the money.
I have used Braun shavers loyally for as many years as I can remember. I bought the 8985 three months ago to replace a Braun 7526 which was worn out after years of use. The 8985 is the worst shaver I have ever owned. Like many of the previous reviews I have found that it takes many passes to get even a moderately close shave. It is taking me 30 to 45 minutes to shave every morning and then it is still not a close shave.
Within three weeks of buying the shaver the foil developed a hole. I called Braun and they said they would send a replacement foil, but it would take two to three weeks. Rather than wait I bought a replacement. As a side note, replacement foils and cutters are very difficult to find.
The it is now two months later and I never received the replacement foil from Braun. I did receive a letter telling me the replacement was being sent, along with a lecture on how to properly use the shaver. While shaving this morning I noticed that the foil was developing a new hole. I will be returning the shaver today. I will be trying to find one of the older models with the previous foil and cutter design.
