Great razor...but will they get better...in the future?
Pros
A decent shaver. Nice close shave, with a little stubble. easy to use.
Cons
Maybe a little noisy, nothing serious. It is , after all an electric razor.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I would buy this razor again, but am still curious about the other brands and types
This is the first electric shaver that I've had in about 20 years. I had one way back when, but it was a cheaper Remington at the time. Definitely not a fair comparison.
The old model died of natural causes (age) and I decided to go back to the triple edge blades. Like any man with a beard we all like to get that close shave, like a baby's bottom. Most razor companies today electric or blade seem to promise the world.
I pulled a little attitude this time around and figured if I was going to go electric, I would for the top model or not go at all. Meaning quality. I went all out and bought the highest model available for Braun. I did some research and found that the foil cutters are better for specific reasons than the rotary razor. Check Consumers reviews.
I found that the BRAUN, 360 COMPLETE does a good job, but like the previous poster said (and I agree) a person needs to buy about 15 different models and try each one for 25 days and THEN choose the best FOR YOU. So for $15,000 (j/k), you too can pick the best for you.
This unit does do a good job. It seems to be ergonomically correct (feels good to hold). I also agree I have to make several passes to get more stubble during each pass. Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be.
The docking station, when plugged in, also seems to do a good job for its self cleaning cycle. The self cleaning station is noisy but not noisy enough to call it a complaint, plus it only cycles a few times for the 1/2 hour of cycling.
However, the book suggests cleaning your razor after each shave. If I had a heavy beard I could agree that my Braun 360 Complete should be cleaned after every shave. But I have a lighter beard and I choose to go every second or even third shave before cleaning. Why? Because I don't seem to have enough whisker pile up that requires cleaning and my second shave is as good as the first. JMO
The other thing too... Each and every time you put the razor through its cleaning cycle that means your cleaning solution is depleted and makes for another purchase for more cleaning solution. The cleaning solution cleans, lubricates and dries. After a cleaning I do notice a difference ..the sense of a brand new razor again. You can actually feel the lubricant on your face.
In closing. I don't think man will ever find the ultimate shave aside from the old straight razor, but for an electric razor I think my money was well spent. I've had it for 2 weeks and think that is plenty of time to make judgement. Maybe one of the other brands and types (rotary)are better, but I'll never know. I picked Braun because the name has been around for along time, they offer a decent warranty.
They recommend that your replace your cutters every 18 months. That's fair, even good blades don't last forever. Blades average $35.00 pending where you buy. In fact, there's an LED prompt that lights up to tell you your solution is low or empty and your blades are due for replacement. Hmmm, a mind of its own. Just extra features to make this razor to be seemingly number one. We'll see. I'll check back in a year's time for another update.
If my wife likes my new baby's bottom and if I feel good after a shave, then its done its job.
Would I buy it again? Probably, but not without wanting to check out the others.
ONE YEAR LATER.
Well, nothing has changed my opinion about the Braun 360. except for the fact they say change the cutters once every 18 months. I have regular, almost a light, beard or growth and shave every day. I also use the cleaner once a week as opposed to the recommended daily cleaning. The cleaner sollution lasts longer.
I am noticing at about the 12 month span that the cutters seem to be bitting sightly, meaning, it won't be long before I need to buy a new set of cutters. I guess the recommended replacement of 18 months could be marketing on the label for those with really light beards.
Other than that, it remains a great razor. I guess the newer razor the "Pulosonic" might be even better, then it's anyone guess what might be out in a few more years...thanks to capitalism.
