The Bottom Line:
Few reasons not to buy this shaver. It has excellent performance, battery life, and a bonus feature of self cleaning. I have not regretted my purchase yet.
This is my first electric shaver, so I haven't gotten the chance to fully know the difference between one and the other. But compared to a manual shave, I'll take the Braun any day. I'm the kind of person who shaves in the morning, and get the 5 o'clock shadow at 4:15. The convience of shaving anytime, with no hassle, or being on the go is great. But let's move on to the specifics shall we?
Pros
The shaver comes with a unique storage/charging base, which is the cleaning station as well. It's pretty styling and is easy to use. There is some cleaning fluid that goes in the bottom of the base, and if you aren't careful, when you try to put it in or change it out it could spill. Word to the wise, don't ever tilt the base!
The shaver itself is well designed, easy to handle and easy to use. The head pivots up and down to try and adjust to the contours of your face as you move it along your cheek and chin. Move the switch up a notch, and the head is locked in one place, in case that pivoting head bothers you. Move the switch one more notch, and out comes a hair trimmer. Probably used for beards and sideburns. I don't have a beard, but I have tried the trimmer on my sideburns. It isn't exactly as great as a conventional hair clipper, but it works.
Charging the shaver is a breeze. Just put it in the base, push the charger lock in place, and let it charge. On the base you can select 3 options. Either clean, charge, or charge & clean. I've had a fully charged shaver last me weeks before I had to charge it. I have myself a quick shave every day. So no worries on battery life in my opinion.
Cons
Now, this shaver has very little negative traits to speak of really. It is a bit of a pricey solution to shaving, but I think it holds a great price as compared to competitors in the same league. Aside from price, there is one thing about the self-cleaning procedure I want everyone to be aware of. Have you ever seen the commercial for this shaver? If you have you too probably were duped into thinking the self-cleaning is a nice quiet breeze. Well it's not. It begins with a noticable, but not extremely loud whirling noise, then proceeds into quieter tones of whiz and buzz. But there is a point in time, I believe the last 5 minutes, where it is very quiet. It's just the fan blowing and drying the razor.
Conclusion
Other than that, there aren't any real troubles with this razor. Clean up is a breeze, charging a snap, replacing the foil (according to manual) should be done after a year and a half based on regular use. So, all in all, its a great buy.
