The Bottom Line:
Worth the cost for a guy who has a tough beard and hates a sore face every day.
Like many guys, I've tried just about all shaving systems over the past 40 years.
A year ago I got tired of the daily blade, & my kids gave me a Norelco Quadra-track at Christmas. It gave a reasonable shave ... but not as good as the blade. I liked being able to watch the morning news while shaving. Biggest problem was that it hurt my face. My face never "got used" to the rotary shaver.
I sprung $200 for the latest Braun with all the bells & whistles. The store I bought at would allow me to return it w/in 30 days if I didn't like it, so I decided that saving $20 by mail-ordering it wasn't such a big deal (besides, there was shipping & handling by mail).
Bottom line ... this Braun shaves as well as a blade. I've got a tough beard. I don't grow a beard because it's so wiry and stiff that it doesn't look or feel good. It's all white on the chin (seems like the white whiskers as your age are tougher than the natural pigmented whiskers), and my friends started telling me I looked like a billy-goat.
Besides a really great shave (for me, as good as a blade), IT DOESN'T HURT MY FACE !!! It did not require a "break-in" period. It was great from day one.
