A lifetime blade user switches successfully to an electric!!!!!

Pros Look, feel, shave, convenience...This razor has it all
Cons Cord is a little awkward, but acceptable. Slightly curved sideburn trimmer.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  To sum up this electric razor would be to say that it has everything I need in a razor and more (Shave time indicator?) I love it!!!
Braun Self Cleaning Electric Razor
Excitingly opening the razor from the box I was anxious to try it out. Following the directions I eagerly awaited its use the next day. I let it charge overnight with the cord plugged directly into the razor as directed.

Razor
Size
The razor measures approx. 6"x2"x1" and is a nice fit for my hand. I like the slim design.

Shape
This being largely dictated by the size, is fairly rectangular. It has smooth rounded edges for comfort and a textured (though plastic not rubber) grip.

Ergonomics
All the buttons are where I can reach them with one hand. I do find myself, however, with my thumb on the unlock button while shaving. This sometimes causes me to slide the switch off. My own habit though which I could break if I wasn't lazy about it.

Weight
Not to heavy, but not so light that it feels like a cheap toy. I have no complaints about the weight.

Noise
Here is where I have read some complaints about this razor. OK so when it is cleaning itself it can be a little noisy. But I just shut the bathroom door and problem solved. Besides, it is only loud for maybe 3 minutes of the total 15-minute cleaning cycle.
Then razor itself sounds like any other with an acceptable amount of noise. Just like the clippers at a barbershop.

Trimmer
This razor does have a pop-up trimmer which comes in handy with the sideburns. Although I must say the blade is curved a little which makes it a little harder to cut a straight line. Not too bad though.

Effectiveness
Very close shave. Even gets through the longer hairs if I were to skip a day or two before shaving. I would say that this is just as good a shaving one way with a non-electric razor. Once you start shaving up and down with a non-electric I don't think you can match it. But I have had no complaints from the ladies...(cough)... my wife that is. It will make your face very smooth to the touch, very close to what a non-electric can do.
Now a tip for the women, my wife did try this on her legs and I will say that it is not worth the time. It will not get them as smooth as a non-electric and it will take you much longer. I would stay away from this for the legs.

LCD Display
This little screen gives some useful info and some not so useful info. The useless info is the last shave time. I guess if you are trying to beat your best time then this is great, but other then that I can't find a use for it.
Now the useful info:
Clean! - This will come up to tell you that you need to clean the razor. Cool in case you forget to stick it in a press the button to clean it.
Oil! - This will let you know that it is time to oil the blades. I have never gotten this since the cleaning fluid contains a mineral oil to keep everything lubed up.
Temp! - This lets you know when you have an overheating razor. Stop and let it cool. I guess this would come from lack of oil or a defect. I have yet to receive this message.
Battery Remaining - This is great to see an indicator bar telling me how much power I have left. When you get down to 5 minutes it will actually start counting down for you. Useful if you are low on power and need to get another shave in. This indicator is very accurate and will only last 30 - 60 seconds after it says 0 minutes remain. The battery power drops very rapidly after 0.
Cleaning - Tells how much time left in the cleaning cycle.
Charging - Tells how much time left in the charging cycle.

Base Unit
Size
The base unit takes up a lot of vertical space. (Which is fine because I have plenty of that.) However, it also takes up a lot of counter space. We all know that bathroom counter space always comes at a premium, but I actually got rid of my clock to put this bad boy in its place. Honestly, it takes up the same amount of space (or even less) if I were to just put a square box of tissues there.

Looks
The base is black in color with light silver speckling across its surface. The buttons are blue and it has three indicator lights for clean, charge, and cartridge.

Cord
This is where my minor complaint remains. I am unhappy with the way the cord is designed. First of all, the part that plugs into the wall outlet is about 4 - 5 inches long and sticks out from the wall that far. This can be annoying if your bathroom is like mine and the outlet is up high on the wall near the sink. My solution for this is that you go to Home Depot or a similar store and purchase a right angle adapter. This will allow the plug to lie flat against the wall which is much more desirable.
The other problem I have is the part that plugs into the actual base unit. The plugs stick out from the unit about an inch, which makes it awkward to fit it directly into a corner unless you angle it funny. At least this is true if you need to put it into a corner to the left of you. Other then that the cord does its job and provides power to the base unit!

Cartridge
The cartridge is where the cleaning solution is stored and also where your little stubby hairs are collected. This is usually installed easily by pushing a button on the base, which pops the top up. You then simply pull out the old one, seal it up, and pop in the new one. These cartridges claim to last a month but I have found that they can make it two months no problem. (I clean the razor maybe every three days.) This is also where your ongoing expense is. These will run you about $10 for a two pack. They also filter out the hairs in the fluid so only fresh liquid comes through to the razor. Evaporation makes the level go down over time and will cause you to need a replacement.

Cleaning and Charging Process
Cleaning
This is the greatest feature of the system. The self-cleaning process! Put the razor into the base, razor side down, and press the button. That's it! It takes over into the following phases.
First 5 Minutes - Cleaning phase. This has about four stages to it.
Stage 1: The reservoir fills with solution and the razor comes on to swish it around. It then flushes it out and drips dry for a minute or two.
Stage 2: Same as stage 1.
Stage 3: Same as stage 1 except the razor stays on for a few seconds after the solution is drained to shake off the excess.
Stage 4: The razor comes on the shake off anything that may remain and it drips dry until the next phase.
Next 10 Minutes - Drying phase. This has two stages.
Stage 1: Low speed drying. The fan blows across the razor at a low speed.
Stage 2: High speed drying. The fan blows across the razor at a higher speed.

All clean!!!

Charging
The initial charge will take much longer then subsequent charges, which is expected. The manual also claims that battery life will become better after several charges. After using for over a year now I can say that the charge time from a full drain will take about 50 - 60 minutes. The razor's display will tell you how much time left until it is fully charged while you charge it. A full charge will last you about two weeks or more with daily use.
