A World of Difference!
Pros
Grinds ice in a moment! Top pick of Consumer Reports!
Cons
Nothing obvious; a personal choice not to dishwash rubber cap & gasket.

The Bottom Line:
With 525 watts of power, sharp blades by Braun (shaver company!), and a pulse option, this blender is awesome!
My husband and I have been struggling with our nice looking blender with the retro chrome beehive base, because it just couldn't crush ice. I love ice cream drinks (like a "Grasshopper") but it was really annoying to come across these chunks of ice in my drink.
We finally decided, "enough is enough!," and a quick consultation of Consumer Reports and Epinions was all I needed. Main stores don't seem to carry it, so I did Amazon. The Braun MX2050 arrived today, and our first test was a handful of ice cubes. Unbelievable. Shaved ice in a moment. Great for snow cones!
We made a shake for the kids, and finally a "Grasshopper" for me. Not one unwelcome chunk of ice in the lot!
The jar and blade unit are easily separated. Braun says all parts are dishwasher safe, but there is a rubber gasket for the base, and a nice rubber gasket around the lid. I know those will get stiff if I use the dishwasher, so I'll probably handwash those pieces. Still, when I asked about replacement prices, the woman quoted me just a few dollars. (I wrote their phone number and model number on the underside of the base in permanent marker just in case!)
The unit looks very nice, white base with glass pitcher. It has a nice pulse option (a quick route to the top of five speeds) which doubles as a "cleaner": after use, you fill the pitcher with water, and pulse it to clean it. I didn't try that.
The removable cap in the lid is also marked for 1 and 2 ounces, which is convenient when making drinks with alcohol.
Speaking of which, here's the basic recipe for a "Grasshopper":
Handful of ice cubes
1-2 scoops vanilla ice cream
1 (or 2) oz.* Green Creme de Menthe (alcoholic)
1 (or 2) oz.* WHITE Creme de Cacao (alcoholic)
BLEND in a blender with guts!
*The key is equal proportions of the two liqueurs; adjust overall quantity to taste.
I'll edit my opinion later if I find something significant. But it sure beats my other blender!
