No close shave here!

Pros inexpensive for a rechargeable
Cons doesn't give a close, even shave; misleading information on wrapper.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  The Braun 3612 does not give an even, close shave. You're better off with a blade.
Having given up on Remington razors because of their non-replaceable plastic parts which wear out too fast, I purchased this Braun 3612 shaver one year ago.

The Braun 3612 is an inexpensive cordless rechargeable shaver. As promised on the wrapper, it recharges its Ni-Hyd batteries in an hour and the charge lasts for about 30 minutes of shaving. A charging indicator lets you know when it has reached full charge. The shaving apparatus consists of a floating cutter which is supposed to remove longer or curly hairs plus a foil (screen) and spring mounted cutter which is supposed to give a close cut. The shaver also has a pop-out trimmer for sideburns and moustaches. Pushing a button on the side of the plastic screen housing allows cleaning the screen cutter head. There is no easy way to clean the floating cutter, so it starts to collect beard debris after a few uses which probably results in a drop in performance.

Neither of the shaving cutters work as indicated. I have to go over each area four or five times then find all the areas that are still uneven and finish the job. It takes just as long to shave with this razor as with a blade.
However, for what its worth, the pop-out trimmer works well.

Braun recommends that the shaver screen and cutting heads be replaced every 18 months. The cost of the replacement is 60% of the price of the new shaver. The packaging on the replacement says that you will get a 25% better shave. The small print says that the 25% is the improvement you get over a worn-out screen - not much of an incentive to keep on using it.

When I was checking this item in the store, I got into a discussion with another customer who was interested that one of the features stated on the wrapper was that the shaver "Recharges from car/ boat 12 volts (sic) battery." That was what he was looking for, but when the package is opened, it turns out an adapter is required which has to be ordered from the company at an extra charge. I guess a little misleading information doesn't hurt sales much.

I am happy with the battery performance so far, but because of the poor results in shaving, I generally use a blade if I want an acceptable shave, so I've only had to recharge it about 3 times in the year that I've had it. I believe that this shaver is much more durable than the Remington brands that I've previously had because there do not seem to be any plastic parts that are liable to wear out.

I would not recommend this shaver to anyone unless they have lots of time to spend shaving, and don't mind having patches of stubble showing here and there on their faces.

I will keep this shaver until the screen gives out, then it's going out with the trash.
