Braun?s 1775 For An Excellent Shave

Pros good close shave, trimmer works well, holds charge, can shave even if battery is dead
Cons A bit expensive, if you wash- use oil
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The Braun 1775 is an excellent razor. It may cost a bit more, but it is worth it.
During the course of a few years, men go through a few razors. I generally have always preferred Remington or Norelco for electric razors. A few months ago, however, I decided it was time to ditch the previous razor and try something new. And there were several reasons why such was needed.

I had used my Remington micro screen (http://www.epinions.com/hmgd-review-2B55-10E9F355-38BC863F-prod4) for a number of years. It had given me fairly good service even through several changes of blades and screens. But I had never cut myself with electric razors until this one. So it had to go. Also, one of the evils of growing older is the reality that the hair turns gray (unless it just turns loose) and it become tougher to cut. The Remington just wasn't doing the trick any longer. I had to spend extra time using a Bic razor after shaving just to get rid of the gray hairs that remained.

So I went shopping for a new razor. Now you have to know that I just don't like shopping. Shopping to me is making up my mind what I am going to buy before I leave the house and then just going and getting it. (That is, unless it is books. That is a different story.) When I began to realize the plethora of choices to be had, I became confused as to which would be better. I could spend $50-$80 and get what I thought would be a better razor or I could get one of the cheap Remington's as I had done before.

The Remington razors looked just like the one I had just with a different frame design. The Norelco razors, with their rounded blade action and triple, tilting heads just weren't compelling. My face has lots of curvature. I felt the job called for something a bit different.

I began looking at the Braun razors. I knew by reputation that Braun was a good company; it was definitely more expensive than the competitors. But did that make it better. I finally decided on the 1775 from the 1000 series. It ran about $60. When I got home and opened it up, I was immediately impressed.

The light weight of the razor was the first thing noticed. It really does weight just ounces. I also liked the thick plastic cover that snapped securely into place around the razor head. My previous one had broken a while back and was failing to protect the razor head very well. The first shave was a dream. So here is a listing of all the pluses:

*lightweight
*gives you a real close shave
*can be washed out
*empties hair easily
*trimmer is powerful
*holds a charge for a long time
*can still shave if batter goes dead by just plugging it in
*battery charges in 60 minutes
There were only a couple of things I disliked:

*it still didn't completely shave all the gray hairs (but it did do better than Remington)
*must be oiled if you decide to wash it out so that it doesn't rust

I have been using the new Braun razor for quite some time now. My face is a challenge. I have a Douglas chin, so it has to get in there to get those hairs that just insist on growing there. Plus my skin is not as tight as in younger days, so it takes a bit longer to complete the task of shaving. I have not yet had to replace a screen or blades. It does need emptying and cleaning a couple of times a week depending, of course, on how thick a beard is being shaved. But in all, I am very pleased with the cutting ability, reliability, and feel of the Braun 1775. While I questioned whether it would be worth the money I was paying, it has proven its worth. I highly recommend this razor for those who might be looking for that special gift for father's day.
