The Bottom Line:
I recommend for the close shave, features, and value
The SmartControl3 4775 gives a great shave for the price. I had just purchased a Panasonic wet/dry shaver as a replacement for another Panasonic for almost twice the price of the Braun and was not impressed with it. The previously owned Panasonic was great, but the one I bought to replace it had a rather loud motor (too high-pitched) and didn't have a charging base, which I like. I was attracted to Braun's Smart Foil feature, which claims to capture hairs growing in different directions. I have a heavy, curly beard, and no electric shaver has ever completely gotten the hairs on my neck well. Even though my face has not completely adjusted to this new Braun, I can already tell that it's given me a closer shave than the Panasonic. I had to go out and by the pre-electric lotion, which I hadn't done in years, and I was skeptical I wouldn't like going back to dry-shaving, but I think there's something to this Smart Foil feature that works. It's not perfect, but as long as I keep shaving daily, I won't have to go over my face with a blade afterwards to get those impossible hairs. The 4775 comes with a nice travel case, brush, machine oil, and a charging cord. It can also be rinsed with water to clean, which is a huge bonus, since it's not a wet/dry shaver. The motor isn't too loud and annoying, and there's worldwide voltage adjustment. Cleaning is just a little bit of an annoyance, as the foil is a little difficult to pop off, and the blades beneath also a little bit of a hassle to remove (you have to twist and grab the blades to pull.)
