Didn't work well for me:

Pros Close shave, battery charge lasts long.
Cons Takes too long to get a close shave, can't trim mustache.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  I give this razor a lukewarm recommendation because of how hard it is to shave your neck.
When my old rotary blade razor quit working, I decided to do some research to see what I could replace it with. I had used only rotary razors in the past, but the reviews I read all pointed to foil razors as providing a closer shave. After comparing prices, features, and user ratings, I decided to purchase the Braun SmartControl 4775 razor. I picked it up at Target for about 65 dollars. The Braun razor does have some nice features. It fits nicely in your hand, the blades are rinse able, and a fully charged battery will provide 45 minutes of shaving time. It also comes with a hard plastic case, instead of the soft vinyl cases that come with some razors.

I have an average beard, neither heavy, nor light, and the new razor worked fine on my cheeks and chin. However, I'm over 50 so the skin on my neck is not as tight as it used to be. With my old rotary, it took me about four to six minutes to shave each morning. My new Braun foil razor was living up to its promise of a closer shave, but it was taking me twice as long to get it. I really had to grind it in all directions over my neck, especially over my adams apple, to get a decent shave. By the time I finished, the foil was hot.

The pop-up trimmer is good for trimming sideburns, but not much else. It's hard to use to trim moustaches because the razor body blocks the view. It is also hard to use to trim those wild nostril hairs that peek out occasionally if you have a moustache because the shaving head blades grab the moustache hairs.

Nonetheless, I gave the Braun razor a chance and used it for three months, realizing that it takes a man's face a while to get used to a new razor. By the end of those three months, though, I had decided the Braun wasn't working out for me. The last straw broke when, as I was shaving, the foil got a hole in it, allowing the blade to contact my face and scratch it. I hated to have wasted all that money on a razor, so I checked the price of replacement foils. I was surprised to find that to replace the foil it was going to cost me half the price of a new razor!

I bought a new rotary razor instead, and have been happy ever since.
