Typically good Braun coffee maker

The Bottom Line:
A coffee maker that is definitely worth considering.
I bought this KF 580 to replace a KF 180 (inherited by my daughter) which replaced a KF 187 (best coffee maker I ever owned). This is a solid machine, comparable to the KF 180. It makes a nice hot cup of coffee. I miss the strength selector (the first pot seemed a bit weaker than what we are used to), but otherwise this coffee maker compares favorably to other Braun coffee makers, which are among the best in my experience.
I miss many of the bells and whistles of the KF 187, like the alerts when the coffee was done and the alert when the warmer plate turned off. I wish a similar machine was still available. However, this coffee maker still has enough extras. The built-in, replaceable water filter is a nice feature which ensures a good tasting cup of coffee. I like that the amount of time that the warmer plate is on can be adjusted (up to 4 hours). The filter basket removes easily for filling or cleaning (and is dishwasher safe) and the carafe is compact and seems quite solid. I had been making 10-cup pots with my KF 180 for a long time, so this carafe will work fine. (However, according to the user guide, a "cup" is 4.4 ounces. I call that a "sip.")
The water filler guide is blue and it is a bit difficult to see exactly where the water is (there is no float). I found, however, that the contrast between the blue plastic and water is adequate.
Overall, a very good coffee maker. Not the cheapest, but certainly not the most expensive. Worth the investment, in my opinion.
