Best Shave I've Ever Had (sensitive skin)
Pros
Only the best shaver and the best shave EVER!
Cons
$100 might seem like a lot, but it's a great value
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
This is the best shaver and the best shave ever! It's a great value (at Costco) when you consider the cost of replacement blades.
I've owned three electric shavers before this one, all of them rotary Norelcos. This shaver is so far above and beyond all of the others I've tried that I am completely amazed.
I can get a better shave with this than with a blade, which I imagine is probably not true for everybody, but my skin is very sensitive and my neck is very hard to shave. With a blade, I either make many passes downward or have to go "against the grain" to the horror of the queer eye guys. Blades always led to ingrown hairs, red swollen neck, etc. With the Norelco rotary shavers, I'd end up rubbing my neck in a circular pattern, grinding it in, making many passes to get the whiskers, and still end up with a red, irritated neck. The Braun Activator gets it with the least fuss--it's still necessary to make several passes in different directions, but it's a whole lot faster and with NO IRRITATION. This is a MIRACLE!
The self-cleaning feature is also very nice. There's no whisker powder on the counter (like there always was with the Norelcos), and the shaver always has a nice, clean smell. The smell is very nice, not overpowering, not overly perfumed.
All in all I love this product so much that I can't believe this thing isn't taking the world by storm. It's the best thing that's happened in my 15 years of shaving.
The price difference over the Synchro isn't much, and you only get the multi-directional hair foil with the Activator, so it's a no brainer. Don't skimp with the cleaner, either, it really is very nice. I bought mine at Costco, for $159 - 40 instant coupon, bringing it down to $119. This includes an extra foil and cutter (the equivalent of the replacement heads for Norelcos), a $25 dollar value. The list price at Target is $199 for the Activator SYSTEM (with the cleaner stand), with no extra foil, so the price at Costco is $105 less. That pays for your membership right there. You will have to pay for the cleaning fluid, but I plan to order a year's worth at J&R where they cost $8 for a 2 pack. Each cartridge lasts 30 uses, so if you clean every other day that's $2 a month... not bad at all.
