The Bottom Line:
This is the best coffee maker for the money. It also uses the cone filter, the best design on the market.
I own 3 Aromaster coffee makers - work, home and a vacation home. They have been in use for 5 to 10 years and work perfectly. This is a no-frills product that makes exactly the same coffee every time. If you don't need a clock and timer to start your coffee, if you don't obsess about brew control, and if you are not anal about keeping your coffee hot after its brewed - then this is the best coffee maker on the market, and its under $25. My only complaint about the design - they changed the on-off switch a few years ago to a rocker style switch. It is too easy to brush against it and turn it on by mistake. It is also much less child-resistant than the previous design.
The Braun uses the #4 cone filter, the best designed filter for making coffee. I have used the basket filters on other people's coffee makers many times and I really dislike them. They are a pain to set up and the filters will be shaped differently depending on how many are left in the box of filters. They are columnar in shape with a wider bottom. If you are only making 4 cups, the coffee scoops barely make it to the side of the filter. Then the dripping water may bypass the coffee and go through the side of the filter, reducing the strength of the brew. Not so with a cone filter!
I never keep brewed coffee sitting on the coffee maker - the heat of the warmer slowly destroys the coffee taste. If there is coffee left over after the first few cups are taken, I put the rest in the refrigerator. It can be warmed up in a microwave - even the next day - and the coffee is the same great taste as when it was first brewed.
Aromaster - It get's top marks from me.
