In the pantheon of bad movies, you will always have your superstars...your Batman and Robins and your Battlefield Earths. You can harp all you want about the mind-numbing depravity and stupidity of those movies (or hundreds of others) but very few will ever come close to what Boxing Helena has to... Read full review »
Don't Open This Pandora's Box
I have been a David Lynch fan for several years, so I was excited to see his daughter Jennifer's debut film. Now, those of you who have seen any of David's previous films like Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive know that they aren't straightforward typical Hollywood films. But he has a pretty large... Boxing Helena - I SPENT AN ARM AND A LEG TO SEE THIS MOVIE
Ok I admit it, I like weird movies. I'm not looking for something that is going to give me life altering decisions, I am just happy for mindless babble for a couple of hours while I am on the computer - but.....but....but....EVEN I, movie ?ho supreme, was taken back by Boxing Helena. Yep, you knew... Read full review »
Bizarr-o-rama
I remember watching this movie a few years ago.
There was a lot of controversy over it because Kim Bassinger was originally supposed to play the role of Helena but she changed her mind and was eventually involved in a lawsuit over it. After seeing this movie, I can understand why!
It is...

I wonder whats in the box...?
This movie is as cold and calculating as the character Helena boxed within. It holds disturbing feelings and thoughts of a sexual nature, and reveals them with scenes of voyeurism and fantasy. Of a different school than the likes of the new influx of psychotic/bondage style film, this movie... Read full review »
Too bad, it had potential
I had been dying to see Boxing Helena ever since I found out what it was about. I forgot about it for quite a while, then somehow it came to mind again - probably saw something about it on the internet. And I tried my hardest to find a copy. Since it was out of print, that was tough.
But I...

Not nearly as bad as its reputation
Ever watched a movie, thought that it was decent as it approached the end, only to see it self-destruct during the final frames? That was the case with the disastrous final minutes of James Cameron's original version of The Abyss, the ludicrous second half of Candyman, and the letdown of a finale... Read full review »
Controversy Breeds Contempt
Boxing Helena has become notorious as being the movie that
cost Kim Basinger $8 million for pulling out of the project
after making a verbal agreement with director Jennifer
Chambers Lynch to star as Helena. Many have said it was the
best decision Basinger has made in her...

What Box?
I remember when I went to see, I think it was a Woody Allen movie, with my family at one of those city Independent theaters when I was younger and seeing a preview for "Boxing Helena". Though I was very young, I knew I wanted to see it. Years went by, and I never did, until just last year, I... Read full review »
Very Dull and Disappointing
I watched this movie on the Independent Film Channel, and frankly, I want those two hours of my life back. I had been told that Boxing Helena was disturbing and sick, so being the person that I am, I had to see this for myself. Well I was not disturbed by it, in fact I was left with no real feeling... After Nick fails to impress her withhis wealth, Helena is struck down by a hit-and-run driver outside his mansion. The good doctor saves her life by amputating her legs, then seizes the opportunity of her immobility to hold her prisoner. Now, he's in control of Helena's body, but not her mind, for this shrewd, quick-thinking vixen ishellbent on keeping Nick on his toes in order to foil his selfish plan to have her not only as a trophy wife but his personal Venus de Milo.
