Intense Workout but Expensive and Boring
Pros
Compact footprint, effective workout, low impact
Cons
Noisy, expensive, no workout programs, can't adjust resistance during workouts
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
I would not recommend the Treadclimber. Too expensive and too little features to warrant the cost.
I've had the TC5000 for over a year and half. It does give an intense workout. I burn an average of 550-600 calories in a 30 minute workout.
The treadal/elliptical motion is very low impact. I had to keep the machine set on the highest resistance setting (12) to get an effective workout for my 240lb body.
The machine is quite noisy and makes a clunking sound when using the treadals and it has pretty high vibration when going 3.0-4.0 mph. However, the motor is robust; I've used the machine regularly and haven't had any problems so far.
One complaint I have is that the machine has no training programs (like hill, interval, heart rate, etc.) because the machine does not adjust resistance by itself. You have to get off the machine and adjust the resistance...something I've never done. Therefore, I just vary the speed during my workout, and as such the workout is quite monotonous with no change variation in resistance.
Although 4.0 mph is quite fast, I would imagine more experienced athletes would not find the 4.0 mph maximum speed effective.
In retrospect I would not buy a Treadclimber again. I would purchase a regular elliptical machine that offers more workout resistance variation and operates quieter.
