Decent but overrated
Pros
Good for those w/limited space. Easy to operate. Men won't have to read the manual!
Cons
Overpriced. Tonal quality won't seem flat to those with a critical ear. Cheesy remote.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
A decent unit that is overrated and too expensive for what you get. I'd go with individual components instead.
I got the Bose Wave Radio w/CD free through a contest at work, so the price was right for me.
To give you some background, I've owned some high-end audio equipment such as Perreaux, Threshold, and Paradigm. I like to believe that I have a very critical ear.
I think that the Bose Wave Radio is probably one of the better clock radios out there, but I don't find the tonal quality to be especially accurate. I guess the ultimate question is, "Is it worth $500"? Each person will have to answer that for themselves. My opinion is that, no it's not worth 5 bills and it is overpriced by about $300.
It's difficult to use the buttons without looking at the radio as they are pretty much flush with the top of the unit. The sleep button has raised nubs, but my older Proton is a much better choice as a pure clock radio.
If this radio sold for $200, I'd probably give it 4 or 5 stars, but at $500, I can't go any higher than 3. If you don't have a very critical ear, you might just love it! While I know that sounds like a slam, it's not meant to be. Many folks don't have a real critical ear and there's no shame in that. If it sounds good to your ear, then that's all that matters.
To me, it has respectable sound but is overpriced and over hyped.
