Like many other people, I believed the right thing to do when obtaining a center speaker to fit in with my Bose 901s was to obtain a Bose center speaker, admittedly I do have Wharfedales as surrounds.

I love the 901s which once setup right are very strong (See 901 review). Initially I thought the VCS-10 was pretty good too, but time started to find some shortcomings. The sound seemed thin and on occasions jumbled particularly at the higher end of the range. At this time I was using a 100 watt Pioneer amp that wasn't enough for the 901s but seemed to be too much for the VCS-10.

Speaking to some friends saw some changes with a move to a Yamaha RXV 596 and a Harman Kardon PA4000 power amp driving the 901s. The new amp seemed to show more vices in the VCS-10 in that the speaker struggled to produce a clear sound. Most sounds appeared to be interlaced and lacked clarity. Further discussions with some friends and the VCS-10 gave way to an Energy center and the difference to the whole system was quite noticeable. Center sounds and speech were now crystal clear and the increased total sound picture from the center complimented the rest of the system.

The VCS-10 looks good fitting in with furniture etc well. It hooks up easily and many people commented on the Bose name, but in the end of the day the performance was just simply not up to the other Bose speakers.
