Here's a real-life dilemma: Let's say you've got two pair of old speakers -- they might even be Bose -- and you want to fold them into a five-channel surround system. You need a fifth speaker for the center channel. Perhaps you should consider the Bose VCS-10, which has a quartet of 2-1/2-inch drivers. According to Bose, they achieve wide room coverage while keeping dialogue locked onscreen. Two flared ports help beef up the bass. Yet the enclosure, just 3-1/4 inches high, is far from bulky or intrusive. The sound however, does not match up to some other center speakers for the same price. However, you ARE buying the Bose name afterall...
