The Bottom Line:
If you can afford $300 for a pair of headphones, these are it! If you disagree, Bose offers a 30-day guarantee.
I have owned a number of Bose products in the past and trust their quality and ingenuity. So, I didn't necessarily worry about 'going out on a limb' to fork out $300 for the Quiet Comfort 2 Noise Canceling Headset. The quiet comfort 2 is less cumbersome than the QC1 - there is no external battery back on the QC2. First of all, when you slip them on, it is almost as if you are wearing nothing! But, the earcups form a nice seal around your ears. When you switch on the noise reduction, it is like stepping into a Lexus and closing the door. Plug them into a music source and wow! I envision that there must be subwoofers in the earcups. I will note however, that if you really push the volume, you can take them to distortion. However, you'd go deaf if you did that very much. At reasonable volume levels, you hear nothing but the music - and what seems to be every note. I only mention this as an issue because I also own a pair of Sony studio monitors which can be crazy-cranked with no distortion. However, the Sony's have a tin-canny sound quality. Are the Bose QC2's worth $300? You bet.
