On a trip to London a few years ago my wife and I were bumped up to first class and were given a pair of the Bose headphones to use for the flight. I thought...cool....and proceed to put them on. Then I thought....WOW!!!!! These headphones are simply amazing!
I'm the type of person that like peace and quiet, and that is something you simply cannot have in an airplane! All airplanes regardless of where you sit are very noisy. I've read articles that part of the reason why air travelers get so stressed is because of the constant noise they are bombarded with in flight. Well noise cancelling headphones are the solution to that problem.
What Do Noise Cancelling Headphones do?
In a nutshell they eliminate constant noises so you cannot hear them. They do this buy listening for noise and then sending an exact opposite sound wave through the headphone-thus cancelling the noise out. The more money you spend on this type of headphone, the more noise they will eliminate. I own a pair of Bose ($300) and a pair of Brookstone($100) noise cancelling headphones, and there is simply no comparison! The Bose headphones are simply amazing! The Brookstone ones work ok....but simply do not cover the ear enough, and don't block out enough of the sound.
Why are they So AMAZING?
Imagine sitting in a plane with that constant drone attacking your ears....then you put on a pair of headphones and it ALL goes away! I am not kidding! When you put these headphones one's instant reaction is to try and clear your ears because it is so quiet your brain thinks that perhaps your ears are clogged! Once you convince your brain that your ears are not clogged you can sit back and enjoy the SILENCE! You don't have to listen to music or a movie when you wear these headphones.....you can simply enjoy the quiet. Needless to say, if you plug them into the aircraft jack, MP3 player, portable DVD etc you will get FANTASTIC sound, but you dont need to!
GREAT sound
These headphones produce fantastic sound! Deep base and high trebles are reproduced with amazing clarity. And don't forget...all that annoying background sound is gone! So when you have these headphones on, all you hear is whatever you are plugged into! I'm sure you have all use the standard airplane headphones to watch a movie, and struggled to hear the quiet moments of the movie. Well with these headphones, struggle no more! Those whispered words will be easy to hear!
The headphones come with all the possible adapters you will ever need and a hard carrying case that protects the headphones nicely. The case is a little larger than I would have liked, but these are not cheap headphones, so more protection is better than less. The High/Low switch is a nice feature that allows you to switch the headphones to match the output of the device you are plugging into so that sound levels are more appropriately reproduced.
The battery life is excellent!
The bottom line is that the only way to really appreciate these headphones is to actually try them! I am sitting here typing this review a few feet from our running washer and dryer, and I cannot hear them....why....because I have my headphones on! Once you've tried these headphones you will yearn for a pair of your own (especially if you try them on a plane). Bose did the right thing by giving them to the airline I was on....if they did this on coach I think their sales would sky rocket!
