The Bottom Line:
For the traveler, this is a must.
I feel I'm behind the wave of techno junkies even though I've been in the tech field for years. Maybe I like to wait until "they" get it right. Bose did just that.
I tried friends and families v2 of the headphones and was impressed at their ability to block out sound. As for Bose sound, it's good. I've been to the shows, studios and even listened in a at least 4 high end home theaters made sound by Bose. The sound is ALWAYS great. The technology for cutting edge, accepted formats has lacked. That said, the sound has always been top notch.
The QuietComfort 3 Headphones are expensive but if you fly a couple times a year, are worth it. If you don't fly, I'm not sure you will get the use. Sure, I have used them at home a number of times while my better half was asleep or on the phone so we BOTH could enjoy what we were doing. In the end, the sound is great but if you are not in noisy areas, you will not need to spend the $$$. On the other hand, one flight with the QuietComfort 3 Headphones will blow you away and I highly recommend them...if you want to shell out the dough.
UPDATE 2007/11/30: With about 25,000 of air miles logged wearing the QT2, I'm still amazed. Using them on my 11 hour flight to Europe was great. More than enough battery life to cover the trip.
