The Bottom Line:
These speaker are a bit expensive but pack a wallup for their size. They are very clear and live up to their reputation.
Pros: Great sound, discreet looks, good quality
As the title implies, we'd gotten tired of looking at decent-sounding but very visible mini stereo systems and decided to acquire a good quality, non-intrusive system. After weeks of internet research and opinions from friends and colleagues we came to Bose as the final choice.
The Bose Lifestyle 25 is very easy and straightforward to install - once you come to grips with the fact that the subwoofer basically is the heart of the system; for our purpose this turned out to be a plus: The subwoofer (aka the Accoustimass module) holds the amp and all the wire connections. The system itself holds a six CD changer, AM/FM tuner and a whole slew of auxiliary, A/V and tape interfaces. We installed the accoustimass is a cabinet in our family room, with wires run under the floor etc. - completely out of sight. The only extra option we bought was five wall/ceiling brackets for the jewel speakers (cost about $100). The cabinet also holds the AM and FM antennas along with a surge protector. Consequently it was a matter of running 4 wires from the cabinet to the system: power (12V), AM, FM and AMP. The instructions for setting it up are very well written and easy to follow; two thumbs up on that.
We actually bought the Bose expecting to have to compromise a tad on the sound - given the small speakers. Needless to say we were wrong. The sound from this system is absolutely incredible. The remote is a UHF (as opposed to infrared) so it works anywhere in the house - and outdoors as well; the system is very intuitive and easy to use (we only touch the system itself when we change CD's; the CD changer is similar to those found in CD changer systems for cars). For our daily use we exclusively employ the remote.
So, if you're tired of large rackmounted systems with large speakers and just as tired of "flashy" mini systems with average sound and would like a discreet looking system of good quality - Bose is for you!
