What's the truth about Bose?
Pros
Size of satellites. Bass module can be hidden almost anywhere. Direct/Reflecting feature.
Cons
Price. Sound quality?. Upgrade is not always easy.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
"NO HIGHS, NO LOWS... MUST BE BOSE!!"
I bought Acoustimass 5 a year ago. I had a mini-system whose right speakers went out. I decided to try a pair of Bose and targeted the Acoustimass 5. I didn't buy the old model but the new one (satellites are a bit smaller - not jewel box size)
One of the disadvantages with this system is that it cannot be used with such systems: You need overpowered receivers. Secondly, i believe that with less money you can get better value.
Unfortunately, i live in Malta, where certain professional brands aren't even known of. Bose is one of the main brand here and it is also more pricey than certain other countries. At first, i was a Bose fanatic (i lost an occasion of buying a pair of B&W 100W spkrs for less than half the price). Then, when i upgraded to a DTS system, i realized that my budget for the speakers was less than that required for the Acoustimass 6 (they have just one tweeter per satellite and a passive "sub") so i went for other brands with much less cost.
Anyway, the thing is that if you intend to upgrade for home-theater in the future, these speakers are certainly not for you. Unlike to floorstanding/bookshelf speakers, these cannot be added easily to a home theater system. However, if you intend to listen to stereo music these things MAY be for you. The Direct/Reflecting feature is certainly an impressive thing, especially for naives.
I have only one question which i really wish someone would answer me:
WHAT IS THE REAL REASON WHY BOSE PUBLISH ABSOLUTELY NO SPECIFICATION?
Good Luck!
After about a week, i'm writing this new article.
I, personally compared the Am 5 series 3 with Sony SA-VE505 (5 Satellites 2 tweeter each 120W RMS, active sub 100W RMS and can without any doubts admit that although they cost the same price and Sony does not specialize in speakers, the latter sounded certainly better than Bose.

I wish i never recommended this product at all...
