Wouldn?t recommend it to anyone.

Pros Sounds good in a corner, or with other speakers paired with it.
Cons Sounds wimpy alone.
Recommended it? No

I honestly expected more out of it. I only bought it because it had the Bose name, and the Bose systems that my aunt and uncle have sound great. I don't know why this doesn't sound very good. The subwoofer lacks the deep loud boom that I expected. The main speakers lack in clarity. The system... Read full review »

Great sound. The darn things are so small you just can't imagine the sound they are able to put out. But in reality, how can you go wrong with Bose...... ever.....

Bose has a wide range of sound systems.  This was a pretty good buy for me.  I placed it in my living room for a type of surround sound type thing and it works just great to me. Read full review »

Bose Acoustimass 5 III Speaker System

These Bose Acoustimass Speakers are very over-rated. I pretty much gave an arm and a leg for them and they aren't as good as Sony! I would go out and buy Sony speakers, for half the price, becuse the Sony speakers have better sound and quality. Just stay away from these speakers. Read full review »

Not bad....

Pros Open, airy sound, low price.
Cons Ineffficient, no mid bass, lack some high end detail.
Recommended it? No

As a real Klipsch-biggot (a less than lover of Bose) I was pleasently surprised by the Acoustimass 5 III's. They are open, airy and have an appealing sound quality, which is kind of wierd coming from a person who thinks Bose stands for Better Off with Something Else.

I went to the Bose... Read full review »

Good Clear Sound - Not Enough Bass

bysergmore Oct 6, 2006

Pros Small package; Easy to set up; Crisp clear sound from the little speakers.
Cons Muffled bass sound; Steep price.
Recommended it? No

I bought this system because of the Bose reputation. However, I was disappointed with this system because I was used to my old Bozak speakers, which had 4 tweeters, 2 (12") woofers and one midrange in each speaker.
I guess my expectations from a Bose system was too high (I also paid a lot for... Read full review »

Couldn't be happier!

Pros Small size, clean natural sound, bass response.
Cons Wish I could get the black woofer and white satellites (Doh!)
Recommended it? Yes

I owned the original Acoustimass 5 set some 20 years ago and it was pretty good - but these are better. I have also owned 901's (excellent) and even a 321 GS II system (mediocre). Have owned Infiniti's and old Kenwoods (when they were top shelf). So I feel qualified to comment on speaker sound... Read full review »

Bose AM5 looks unkonvencional and sounds too unkonvencional....
Generaly AM5 is very good speakers for money you pay (new one) just must find amp. or receiver for this speakers. This can be expensive way to get good sound but if you like it... In my case I try several amps and receivers and... Read full review »

Cons Price Sound No expandability sub underpowered crossover freq nonchangeable Brackets...
Recommended it? No

The 2 small speakers have a very tinny sound, good for highs and treble but not much midrange response.
The sub is definitely underpowered and when utilized with the 2 small speakers the sound is terrible. Not even close to reproducing what should be there. For the price of these there are... Read full review »

The Real Deal

Pros Seperation, staging, small size, low end response, no distortion
Cons expensive, not expandable for home theater
Recommended it? Yes

I have owned the Bose Acoustimass 5 speakers for 11 years now and I absolutely love everything about them. The pieces are small and disappear in the room leaving a custom look. I think the sound is phenomenal. There is excellent seperation, staging, and low end response. Bose acoustimass speakers... Read full review »

i'm a musician, so i only care how music sounds, and not how speakers sound; i've seen too many people testing speakers not caring about music. these are among the most natural sounding speakers i have heard. what else is there to say? it's wonderful how little space they take, less wonderful how... The Bose AM 5's are something I have always wanted to have I am 17 and I knew when I got in College I would not be able to afford them and I also knew my old Kenwood's that took up my entire closet were going to be way too big. Anyway Long story short I have an uncle who told be about Bose back... Read full review »

The only Bose product that I like

bybeachbarsoup Jun 16, 2003

Pros Full bass, lively treble, handsome design, compactness.
Cons Delicate, factory wires only have neg/pos indicators at one end of the wire.

I'll be honest, I pretty much hate most Bose products. I was suckered into buying a pair of Model 100's and my grandmother had a WaveRadio CD and returned it within 1 week. By the way, I hated the Model 100's.

Anyway, the first day that I set the Acoustimass 5's up in my room I was... Read full review »

Bose solved my problem.

5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Big sound in a small package. Wonderful sound dispersion.
Cons Price.
Recommended it? Yes

My old speakers were Sansoui floor speakers with 16" woofers. They sound great as long as you position them to dominate the room. In my new house, the entertainment area got a corner next to a huge German Wall Schrank. I could only get sound in a small area, and had to use a small TV stand to make... Read full review »

Pros Easy to install, sound really good. Very clear.
Cons Bass unit unshielded. Best sound achieved with distance between speakers.

After reading the reviews posted by others whom have purchased these speakers, I felt it necessary to add my voice to the mix to perhaps put a little different spin on the Acoustimass 5. First, let me say this, for those who want gigantic sound over a dynamic range, who listen mostly to rock and... Read full review »

Clear sound and excellent clarity.

bysnapdragon_nc Feb 7, 2002
8 Helpfuls 9 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Small in size; Large in sound. Crisp mid and highs. Long-lasting quality.
Cons The "mid-woofer" performs well, but needs a true subwoofer. Not upgradable.
Recommended it? Yes

I've owned my AM5's for over 10 years and they still kick. From low to ear-bleeding volume they still sound great; and, are easily hidden. Hide the mid-woofer, mount the drivers on the wall, and enjoy an uncluttered house with awesome sound.

Be careful with the hinged cubes. Drop them and... Read full review »

How This Speaker System Has Performed

I have always been pleased with the sound coming from my Bose speakers, however I wouldn't turn away more, tighter bass.

What's the truth about Bose?

bycrow2 Aug 26, 2001
6 Helpfuls 7 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Size of satellites. Bass module can be hidden almost anywhere. Direct/Reflecting feature.
Cons Price. Sound quality?. Upgrade is not always easy.
Recommended it? No

I bought Acoustimass 5 a year ago. I had a mini-system whose right speakers went out. I decided to try a pair of Bose and targeted the Acoustimass 5. I didn't buy the old model but the new one (satellites are a bit smaller - not jewel box size)

One of the disadvantages with this system is... Read full review »
