While many people plunk their money down in Bose products, few know that for the same price they could be getting much better products that offer so much more. For many people Bose is an easy decision; everyone knows the name, seen the advertising, or saw their products in movies which Bose paid the film makers to do. Their speakers are directed at the uneducated public, well the audio retarded to put it into better terms. It's not your fault, it is a company with inferior products and great marketing hype.
FIRST, all Bose products use cheap plastic enclosures which vibrate almost as much as the speaker itself. SECOND Bose used cheap paper cone tweeters, not the dome tweeters we see in better speakers. Ironically we see them in speakers that cost much less and sound much better than Bose speakers. The tweeters are paper cones used to produce 250 hz to 20,000 hz, HELLO no speaker can acurrately reproduce the entire spectrum with anything representing a flat frequency response. They have a lot a treble response which is mistaken for clarity. Trust me listen to some male vocal recordings and you will see what I am talking about. THIRD the crossover on the "subwoofer" is at 250 Hz which is way above what is should be. Bass sounds are nondirectional from about 80 Hz and below. Above this point the bass radiates out to the box and is easily localized. FORTH the "subwoofer" enclosure is a bandpass design. Bandpass subs are designed to be very efficient within a small tuned frequency which results with muddy, boomy, and undefined bass response. The list goes on and one......
The Acoustimass system has been around since the mid 80's and has not changed one bit. They just add a roman numeral behind it and call it a new series. ALL OF THEIR MONEY GOES INTO ADVERTISING AND MARKETING. No speaker company has a TV comercial but BOSE does, you see their advertising in regular magazines like TIMES and Sports Illustrated. But the most disturbing of all, BOSE requires their dealers to keep the BOSE products seperate from the rest of that dealers equipment, they do not allow you to make a comparison between other brands. They know their products SUCK but they don't want you to know that. You might as well flush your money down the toilet if you're thinking about buying BOSE. You can get sooooo much better products for the same or even less than what they charge. USE YOUR EARS AND REALIZE THE DIFFERENCE. For the price of the Acoustimass Home Theater system, close to $2000.00 or more you can get something that will KILL the cute little BOSE speakers.
