Many audiophiles consider Bose Speakers the top of the line speakers. This was true for a very long time but now the market has challenged the Bose line.

Bose speakers are great for those only interested in listening to music. The acoustimass series speakers offer a variety of alluring features. The series 5 system comes with a passive sub-woofer and two satellite speakers. The two front channels are connected into the sub-woofer and then the satellites are connected from the sub. The subwoofer filters out the bass and only allows the highs to be fed to the satellites. This is very effective and fills the room with great sounding music.

The fact that the system is quite compact is a really nice feature. The sub can be easily hid in a corner or under a table. The satellites are easy to set on top of an entertainment center or mounted on a wall with the optional mounting brackets (I recommend this option).

The sub-woofer consist of two 5/14 woofers and the satellites contain two 2 ? speakers that handle the mids and highs quite well. The satellites are adjustable so the sound can be projected the way you like.

The problem with this system, as with all of Bose, is when you add the theatre system to you home entertainment setup. Bose are strictly for music, in my opinion. The modern home theater system requires powered subs and a better response from the mid-range speakers. For the money you are much better with a JBL system or Polk Audio for a full system setup.

The Bose receive my highest recommendation for a pure music setup but I must pass if you want a home theatre setup.
