Wife Said No Rear Speakers

Pros Ease of installation. Nice sound for the casual/non-discriminating listener.
Cons Confusing Remote that lacks features. Software problems -->crash!!
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Interested in the thrill of surround sound - DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT! Not a discriminating listener - go for it!
The kids wanted a surround sound DVD player and like the title says - the wife said no way to rear speakers. So this product was the logical choice.

I have a hard time distinguishing the 5.1 sound. Most of the time, all you hear is the sound coming from the speakers - no illusion of rear sound or center sound. The bass is big though and sometimes shakes the room.

We have had about three different system crashes that are resolved by unplugging the unit for a couple of minutes and re-booting. I learned this through tech support which was relatively quick - no long hold times. Right now, I am perplexed and have not solved this problem: The kids got me the Beatles Anthology DVD series and the Bose 321 will play the DVD for 5 or 10 minutes before it freezes and shuts down the system. It does this for each disk and it is not the disks as I can watch them on my computer with no problem. Another call to tech support I guess.

I don't like the remote as it is hard to use and lacks features that others have (like on-screen commands that you have to go back to the menu to activate).

The unit was for the kids and they are happy with it as it plays their movies and mp3's and anything else they put in there. If it was up to me I would have spent the money on a conventional unit and I think got more bang for the buck.
