The Bottom Line:
Stay away from this product and go to a real audio store and get something else. Its poor performance doesn't justify its high price. You can do better.
Bose does a nice job with advertising and hype, so to the uninitiated, they are producing something of "audiophile quality". Believe me people, they most certainly are not. Like most of their products, this is overrated. The surround sound quality is fair, although admittedly, its difficult to reproduce surround sound from two speakers. For stereo listening from CDs, the sound quality is ABYSMAL. The sub-woofer is anemic and boomy, with a great deal of distortion at anything approaching high volumes. If Bose put a little more money into their PRODUCTS instead of their incessant ADVERTISING, they might make a decent product. I think many of the reviews on here that are favorable of this unit are more a result of that copious advertising than actual critical listening. (No offense) Also, its EXPENSIVE for what you get. Again, you're paying for advertising, not good audio. MOST of the home theater in a box units you can buy for 500.00 blow this thing away. As a company, Bose is very difficult to deal with for returns or warranties. I've heard several horror stories of Bose's indifference to customer problems. Here's a tip: if you want REALLY GOOD audio quality from two speakers and a subwoofer, take a look at Denon's s-301, or the s-101. I bought the 301...it is SUPERB for what you get. A FAR superior unit in every way. Its more expensive, but WORTH IT.
