The Bottom Line:
One of the best on the market, second to none in silence. Get one!
Bosch dishwashers are the absolute best. After much research, we decided to overlook the price tag, and took the plunge. We are glad that we did!
I have owned and used a number of different dishwashers in the past, and this is by far the best I've had the pleasure of using. It is well engineered throughout- Featuring a HUGE all stainless steel interior, two very generous racks, one of which (the top) has an innovative system that easily allows the user to raise it to fit large pots in the bottom. It fits a LOT of dishes- They claim 14 settings- and I believe them. The top rack can also be removed, allowing extra large items to be washed.
The racks are fully configurable- many of the tines that hold the dishes up can be collapsed to get them out of the way for large or oddly shaped items. The washer also has clips to hold small light dishes, like tupperware containers, in place.
What sets this apart from other dishwashers- And what justifies the price? Well, you are paying for three things.
First of all, Bosch quality is legendary. These things are built like tanks, and they LAST. The interior tub is heavy gauge stainless steel, and most other outside parts (the hidden ones, under the cabinet, that is!) are molded high-impact plastic. They are built with the precision engineering and attention to detail that German made products are known for- And are likely to last as long as the kitchen that they are installed in.
Second, They do what they are supposed to do- and do it well. They wash dishes! I have to admit that when we first installed ours, we challenged it a bit. I really ran that poor machine through it's paces- Loading dishes with caked on crud, burnt on muck, and other things that probably shouldn't have found their way into the machine without some pre-washing. But- it took care of them with NO problem. We were absolutely floored by how well it cleaned- so much so, in fact, that we pulled all of our 'clean' dishes out of the cabinets and re-washed them. There was a noticeable difference!
The third, and for some most important, is the sound. Have you ever heard a Bosch dishwasher? Well, I haven't- And I have one in my kitchen! They are really that quiet. Bosch is the only manufacturer that I've seen that is so confident about how quiet their product is that they will put a fully running machine on the sales floor just to show it off. Just how quiet is the machine? When installed properly, It is a mere 44 Decibels. Normal conversation is 60-70 DB- So it's considered virtually silent. We had to open ours to make sure that there was actually water in it the first time we ran it! The fish tank that we have on the other side of the room drowns the sound out completely.
This model has a sleek, control free front. The control panel is mounted at the top of the door, along with a LED display panel. Because there are no exposed controls or display (and since you won't be able to hear it!), the dishwasher projects a small red 'dot' of light onto your kitchen floor so you can tell it's running.
There are 6 different wash cycles- But this machine is probably smarter than most who will be operating it. There is an automatic mode that senses the water temperature and soil level of the contents and adjusts the wash cycle accordingly for maximum efficiency. It also has a delay start feature, allowing you to start the cycle at any time (up to 19 hrs) in the future, so it can run while you're asleep or at work.
It's also super efficient- It is Energy Star rated, Using an estimated 234 Killowatt hours per year. The EcoSense mode will also save you up to 20% on your power bill, and the Half Load option also cuts back on usage when you are not running a full machine.
Drawbacks? Well- It's not perfect. You DO have to load the dishes in, and take them out. If they could just figure that out. The bottom rack can be a little tough to slide in and out at times, for some reason it seems to want to veer off course. Otherwise, It is an incredible machine!
