The Bottom Line:
Well worth the price tag. Extremely quiet, cleans brilliantly, great capacity, and easy on the water/electricity bill.
My husband and I high-fived when our 3 year old middle-of-the-line 24" Whirlpool died. It was so loud we could not watch TV with it in the next room, and you basically had to pre-clean all of the dishes if there was to be any chance of them coming out halfway clean.
The 24" Bosch is as different as night to day. It is incredibly quiet and cleans like a dream. Before I bought, I was concerned about the reviews I had read with:
- dish loading
- cleaning the filter
For dish loading - you can fit a HUGE amount of dishes in - much more than the high end Kitchenaids I was comparing it with. However, because it is a set pattern, it is more awkward fitting larger items in. But you can do it - especially becasue it is a tall tub it has a lot more clearance than our old one. I recommend cutting out the recommended pattern and sticking it on your dishwasher for the first week until you get used to it. It is well worth the effort.
Cleaning the filter is easy and you don't have to do it all that often. I do mine about once every 3-4 weeks. I had to do it more frequently on my previous Whirlpool - which was supposed to be a "self-clean" - ha!
The manual recommended running your kitchen tap until the water was hot, so that the first water to flow into your dishwasher is hot. I do this every time and my dishes come out incredibly clean. It is an Energy Star appliance and uses far less water than I would if I had to handwash the dishes :-)
It has 5 washing cycles - but I have only ever used "auto", even with wine glasses and pots & pans. It takes about an hour, and comes out nealry dry. (it's only the mugs with the lip on the bottom that retain a little bit of moisture. Again, my old Whirlpool was waaaay worse. There is a 1/2 load option as well, although we always have a ton of dishes so I very rarely use it. It also has a timer, but we just run it every night before going to bed (it is so quiet you don't know it is on).
I highly recommend this product. I love the capacity, the quietness, and the cleanliness. My parents have had theirs for 12 years and it still works like a dream.
UPDATE: We have now had it for nearly a year and if possible, I love it even more!
