Examining the Causes of Trends - The Tipping Point
The Encarta World English Dictionary defines a tipping point as either:
1. critical juncture: a defining moment in a series of events at which time a series of significant, often momentous and irreversible reactions occur
2. rapid spread in epidemic: the stage during an epidemic when the...

Malcom Gladwell's The Tipping Point: You Never Know What the World Will Bring
After reading Malcom Gladwell's Outliers in just a few days, I couldn't help but pick up another one of his pieces the day after. The Tipping Point is yet another phenomenal writing by Gladwell, as he brings us in-depth analysis of things we always questioned but had little knowledge about. The... Read full review »
Good Read in a Soft Science
Tipping Point is one of an emerging trend of marketing, economic, social science type books that seems to delight in being counter-intuitive and correlating issues in a manner that many would not necessarily connect.
Tipping point is fairly light reading, written at about a high school...

Excellent
Malcolm Gladwell's, The Tipping Point, is an excellent novel. It explains with scientific data how ideas succeed or fail, how trends take off and/or die off, basically how any sort of epidemic takes off or doesn't.
Just when you think there is no rhyme or reason as to why anything happens...

The Tipping Point is interesting but...
After reading Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking I was less inclined to read The Tipping Point. Still, the tipping point was on my reading list and for some unknown reason I am very loath to remove a book without having read it. The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big... This book is contagious
The book, the tipping point explains why some things become a social trend. Ever wonder why the I-pod is suddenly everywhere, or Harry potter took off like it did. This book examines the thoughts of social epidemics saying that because of different people that spread Read full review »
Simplistic and Disappointing
I was really looking forward to reading this book, as I'm very interested in topics like pop-economics and social trends. Having read several books on the topic of "network economies," which rely heavily on the concept of tipping points, I thought this book would explain where you can expect a... Read full review »
Its value is in tying it all together
I recall many of the studies and examples cited by Mr. Gladwell from my college days, and marvel at how much they still apply today, maybe even more so. In a world where so many words are used to say so little, his book should be a must-read for leaders in Corporate America desiring to break... Read full review »
An interesting look into the heart of epidemics
"The Tipping Point" is a book that captures the driving force behind epidemics. It gives insight into how and why epidemics start. Another fascinating idea discussed in this book is the power of influence that the media and our peers have over us.
What I liked most about this book was the...

Psst! Hey, Malcolm Gladwell! Those Elusive Market Mavens Are Right Here on Epinions.com!
Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference sounded a little too much like an Americanized Taoist book to me at first - something along the lines of a butterfly flapping its wings in South America - which leads to this, which leads to that - until,... Find the Balance
Found this book to be an amazing read, thought provoking to say the least. Taking events in history that sometimes even surprised the makers of a product and putting it into a perspective often passed over all together.
Ever find yourself wondering why you like something? Why you buy some...

The Tipping Point : How Far is Too Far
I have too many books. I am constantly reading more than one book at a time. At present, I have bedside books (6 in progress), purse books (1 novel, 1 puzzle/game), bathroom books (3) and living room books (4). I also have a stack I call the W.F.R.P. - Waiting For Reading Pile . At the insistance... Read full review »
Tipped: New perspectives will rise after this read
The Tipping Point is a very enlightening read. Gladwell's case studies of social epidemics, the talented individuals behind them, and other success stories has given me a new perspective about the people and events around me. At first I wasn't sure what I would gain from reading this book. Now, I... Read full review »
Gladwell's Reader Friendly Tipping Point
Malcolm Gladwell, a former Washington Post reporter who also wrote for The New Yorker, has bridged the chasm between academia and current events in his accessible book, The Tipping Point. Gladwell effectively boils down numerous case studies to their essence, using subject matter experts and... Read full review »
The Tipping Point -- What is a Fad?
I've always wondered what it takes for an idea to catch on...to go from a small group to a larger one to eventually becoming part of the mainstream culture.
There are several theories. One is that ideas are actually like viruses. These "memes" infect us and we can't wait to pass it on to...

Really!? Oh, I see.
I recommend this book highly. It details problems of human interactions in groups larger than 150 people and gives examples of groups that take action to alleviate those problems. This is interesting information but is, I feel, the least important part of the book. A mechanism by which fads... Read full review »
Little Causes, Big Effects
If you visited New York City in the 1980s, you remember the squeegee guys. Your car would be stuck in traffic, waiting for the light to change, and a menacing character would approach your car, squeegee in one hand and sharpened screwdriver in the other, offering to "clean your windshield" for a... Amazing Insight
One of the best books I've read in some time. Gladwell is amazing at taking complex theories, explaining them in an understandable way, and the using a real life example to illustrate the point. It's a quick read too - you probably can finish it in a weekend.
The Tipping Point explains the...

Tipping misses the Point
A good read that promotes a new frameowrk of viewing societal change but leaves the reader hanging in terms of empowerment.
As peterme so eloquently describes in his review of The Tipping Point (http://www.epinions.com/./book-review-3FBD-8A1392B-38DEB920-prod3), this book is a...
