Hello there! This is "The New" Drawing on the right side of the brain review,as they say it is a brand new edition of the classic- expanded and updated. It is a course in art to enhance the reader's creativity and artistic confidence all packed down in an easy-read. Let me tell you a story, now, I believe 2 months ago, I read in an article somewhere about this book and how its helped so many people learn how to draw by inviting mild science into the class. So i decided, I should go take a look-see and find out, now, I am an aspiring artist, so it would make it even better. I go to my local mall and purchase a copy, I live in Canada so it was $24.99 (U.S- $16.95). I rush back home and jump on the couch. Intimidated, i opened the book to the introduction:
The subject of how people learn to draw has never lost its charm and fascination for me. Just when I begin to think I have a grasp on the subject, a whole new vista or puzzlement opens up.
Being half of the first paragraph this book had me hooked. Eagerly i kept reading about the 5 perceptions in drawing to reading it as a teachable skill it covers it all. One thing I noticed was that it had little little sayings and quotes given by famous artists such as Van Gogh, Auguste Rodin and student drawings by children and teens later progressing to adult stages. This book covers the beauty of colour with exactly 12 pages of glossy colour print. Very sleek.
Then, when you think this book is ALL about Illustrating and Colouring and techniques. They begin to show you what is in a signature. They show the artistic merits of having a bold signature and mellow merits of having a skinny, tall signature. It is the art of writing that is packed into this book as well! Very good! Also, on the more technical terms and within the scientific areas of this book lies the recent developments in brain research that relate to drawing, new insights on the use of drawing, self-expression through drawing, ways to start from a white page to a detailed masterpiece.
