Pulitzer Prize Winner The Grapes Of Wrath Banned For Being...Communist?
I've never before read a novel like John Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning The Grapes of Wrath, published in 1939, and I doubt I will again. It's not that its staggering story has lost its relevance today because it and its writer are still widely celebrated and read. In 2002 Steinbeck's 100th... Read full review »
Unbelievable must-read classic
The Grapes of Wrath is an absolutely amazing book by John Steinback. It is overflowing with symbolism, and it extracts a lot of emotion from the reader. The book is organized so that the chapters switch from a world-wide view of life during the Great Depression to a focus on a specific family.

Grapes of Wrath is Steinbeck's Masterpiece
I've always viewed Steinbeck as Hemingway 2.0. Where Hemingway meanders through panorama, Steinbeck sets forth, always providing direction and purpose. His prose is slightly less conducive, but still projects enough imagery to satisfy Hemingway's myrmidons. The themes are lucid, Steinbeck telling... Read full review »
A Classic Read- (PLOT SPOILER REVIEW)
The Grapes of Wrath, a poignant novel about the Great Depression and its effect on already poor Americans, follows the Oklahoma native Joad family. The family faces prejudice and troubles as they travel across the west to enjoy a more prosperous life in California picking fruit. However, upon their... Read full review »
THE GRAPES OF WRATH
The Grapes of Wrath, written in 1939 by John Steinbeck (1902-1968), is considered by many literary critics to be the greatest of all American novels. This is a book about the Great Depression, and one poor sharecropper family's struggle to survive the worst deprivations that American society in the... Read full review »
The ending
I loved the book...could hardly put it down at times. The ending, however, left me out to dry. I want to know what happens to the Joad's! Do they stay in California? Does Tom ever find them again? What about Noah and Connie? I just don't understand. The novel ends with Rose of Sharon feeding the... Read full review »
"The Ghost Of Tom Joad"
The Grapes of Wrath is truly one of the most uplifting novels ever written.
Now, many people familiar with the plot of the novel may be wondering about the above statement. The prospect of a dirt-poor Oklahoma family heading to California during the Depression in a desperate and ultimately...

A spiritual journey inside a beat-up old truck!
The Guardian quoted The Grapes Of Wrath as "a terrible and indignant book; yet it is not without passages of lyrical beauty " I have to say that I totally agree with the review, however the term "indignant" strikes me as ironic since the book's moral values lies on the people's inhumane... Remembering a dark time in working class history
John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath is a classic. It's one of those books that everyone knows the name of, and even people how haven't read it would recommend the life enhancing experience in reading it. It's number ten on the 100 Best Books of the Century list. It is also one of the 'Great... Read full review »
?In the souls of the people, the Grapes of Wrath grow heavy for the vintage??
Counted among the classics of great American literature, The Grapes of Wrath is the usual suspect for a snapshot of life during the Great Depression, and it is an amazingly clear and vivid one. What is perhaps unexpected is the amount of emotion and soul that can be found within its pages, in the... Read full review »
Grapes of Wrath
The book "Grapes of Wrath" probably the best book I have ever read in my life. It is about a family that is traveling to California in order to find work. Of course there is more more to it then that. The book used a few different scenes. Because the scene changes it greater explains what was going... Read full review »
Gritty, Direct--Real as it gets
Thank you Mr. Steinbeck. This is one of the few books that I have found worthy of the investment to read several times. Each time, I find the colors and texture of the story even more vivid.
If you don't want a dose of reality, the book may be to "gritty". If you like happy endings, you...

The Real Depression Era Story.
John Steinbecks's The Grapes of Wrath is one of the most realistic novels ever written about America's depression. Written in 1939, the horror of the depression was still vivid in the hearts of people across America. This familiarity with the era and the people shows through every paragraph.

Reading Into Literature Too Much?
I had hopes for a solid literary experience when I picked up Grapes of Wrath. In retrospect, I suppose it?s ironic that I did. The entirety of the book revolves around a hokey dull-witted Oklahoma family, and their misadventures across the Depression-era US. They repeatedly blunder into one... Read full review »

Steinbeck: America';s Most Vulnerable Trampled In The Vineyards Where ";The Grapes of Wrath"; Are Stored.
Ask which is THE single greatest American novel, and you can count on the usual meritorious suspects:
?Moby Dick? by Herman Melville is the usual favorite. Some might go for ?Tom Sawyer? or ?Huckleberry Finn? by Mark Twain, or else ?Babbit? by Sinclair Lewis, ?The Red Badge of Courage? by...

Simple, Clear John Steinbeck
This book is considered to be one of the best books written in American history, capturing the turmoil of a people and a generation, in the simplistic and clean way only John Steinbeck could. I'm not John Steinbeck's biggest fan, and I often feel unchallenged when reading him, but in this lengthy... Read full review »

Not a bad classic
I love to read. I really do, and I could waste hours reading - I know reading is a beneficial thing to do, but when you do it as much as I do, you do start wasting some time. To make myself feel less guilty, I'm trying to read more classics, and my mom recommended "The Grapes of Wrath". She had... Read full review »
