The Bottom Line:
It may not be a classic but I am glad that I read them and look foward to reading any more to come.
I first picked up this series a couple of months ago. I finished the books before I started watching True Blood. I did not buy them in the initial set because I was worried that I may not care for the books. However once I started reading I was buying one every other day. If you are a fan of the show you will definitely the books. How ever I warn you that they are different. The books are told from Sookie's View so if Sookie doesn't know neither will you. Harris has playful writing and can keep your attention for hours. I have not read any of her other books so I do not know the similarities they may share. However I do know that she was a mystery writer and some of the books do show a since a “who done it”. Make sure you set aside sometime because you may find the hours flying by. I should warn you that if you buy the series like this that two of the books are switched, so check to make sure you really are reading the next book. If you are very meticulous you will discover that Harris is not consistent with her characters. Descriptions and powers among other things fluctuate from one book to another. All in all a great read.
Sookie Stakehous is a busty, blonde waitress in Bon Temps. She has a unique disability she can read minds. This may come in handy but makes dating any person who is a live rather difficult. In walks vampire Bill Compton. During the budding relationship with Bill a string of murders occur in Bon Temps. Sookie’s klutzy, dumb but handsome brother becomes the suspect. Not only does Sookie loose someone close to her, but soon may become a victim her self. Though Sookie survives you will find this sets the tone for the rest of the series. Sookie proves to an asset to the vampire community, mostly Eric Northman (A one thousand year old vampire). Eric may have eyes on more than Sookie ability. Sookie may realize that there just may be another supernatural that can steal her heart if she can stay a live long enough to let it happen.
