A Fascinating Tale!

An engaging story that is well written.
Cons
None.

This is an account of a Peace Corps volunteer teaching English in a small town in China. The town has not seen foreigners for many years.
If you're intending to teach English abroad anywhere, this is a good book for you. The author discusses not only his interactions with his students, including the cultural misconceptions, but his difficulties and triumphs with the people in the town in general.
Likewise, if you're planning on traveling to China, this book is extraordinarily useful. You will find the common mistakes made by foreigners, the cultural mishaps that many experience, the ways to get the most out of your trip.
Or, if like me, you are just an armchair traveler, you will enjoy a fascinating tale.
The author's writing style is accessible while not being simplistic. Unlike many authors who write about their experiences, this one is more than willing to make fun of himself, showing how he can occasionally make silly mistakes. This is a story of an average human being. I highly recommend it.
